That would be sort of hard considering they went out of biz.

I am also looking to have some sansui pieces checked over.Any recommendations for a good repair shop or fellow AKer in the NJ/NY/PA area?

Dr*Audio is in Ohio. Ken at Stereo Surgeons in Hartford has been recomended by some AK members. (Ken, If you are reading this, I can't get a link to your website to work.)

If he doesn't check in here himself, you can find him in the member's list link at the top of this page. Click on his name and it will give you contact information.

That was the problem I was having. The link changes. It acts like someone has hacked it.

Dr Audio has done me right and I have sent a couple of friends his way who are also quite happy. You can PM him from here if he does not jump in on this thread.

Packing and shipping is a painfull ordeal so please do it right with two important things in mind, protection of your unit and ease for the tech to unpack and repack. POP CORN is not cool while 2" vinyl covered styrofoam sheets, from Home Depot/Lowes, work very well.
Keep in mind your gear will be tossed around and sent down conveyor belts to crash into the package before it and be crashed by the one behind. It could be upside down, dropped from the back of the delivery truck or dribbled to your door.
I have had much better luck and service useing DHL Express and very poor results with both UPS and FEDX. Insurance is a good idea but they almost always rule the item damaged due to poor packing and deny the claim unless it is clearly evident they broke it.

Find a tech who does Vintage gear because we have all heard the stories of the units that sat on the shop shelves for many months waiting for parts while the bench fees pile up. Vintage Techs have a feel and way with this stuff to overcome many obsticles and are able to be resourcefull when necessary. They don't want or need your stuff cluttering up their limited shop space any more then you do.

Why even chance getting it all scratched and dinged up in the hands of shippers and/or techs?

Get in there and clean those controls yourself! Simple as pie.......

How can someone get hold of Dr Audio ???
Its dr*audio (Warren) and the member list is where to go. merrylander in MD may work on your Sansui, EchoWars in KC area, Terry DeWick, who has a website listed in the banner ads at the bottom of the page. My experience with local techs (Philadelphia and southern NJ) is such that I would rather pack well and ship to a "known good tech", like these gentlemen, than give to a bricks & mortar shop with high overhead and limited time.

Many thanks to everyone for the information. I do have the ability to go in and clean, deox , etc but would rather trust a more experienced tech to recapping, mods, and more delicate procedures. Do not mind shipping if needed but it is certainly easier to drive if someone is local. Have found a few good brick and mortar shops over the years but nothing in this area, thus the question. Instead of experementing with the shops around here would rather trust the recommendations of knowledgable AKers.

Have you ever tried Electronic Servise labs in Ewing NJ? They have been great with some of my vintage electronics.
