Loudness freaks: Whats your peak dB level? (if you know, post it here!)

vegabass25

Awesome AK member.
My peak loudness on my system was 127dB at my listening seat (2 1/2 meters from my fronts, 1 meter from my front and back surrounds). My amp was at a little over 1/2 and my speakers sounded great!:banana:

Whats yours?

Well I was just jamming out to my system with my drum kit. My system was running 100dB C-weighted slow my drums at 103dB C wighted slow and peaking at 110db for snare hits on fast. This is all with the meter sitting next to me.

Not that impressive right? Well I was playing along with an LP. Talk about good isolation.

Peak I have had it to is 115db continuous C-weighted slow at my listening spot for a test run. My amp only puts out 120wpc, but my speakers are 98db/w/m. :D

Yeah same here. Our speakers are sensitive enough to not need super powering! Im giving mine only 110 watts each! they have a sensitivity of 99dB 1w 1m :thmbsp:

Were you wearing earplugs?

From calculations I should be able to get up to 125 dB but then I would be throwing 300+ watts into my speakers.

I have no idea what the SPL was, but many years ago (you don't want to know), I was at a Steve Hackett concert (small venue) and the band played "Please Don't Touch".

Um...well...being front row center, it was plenty loud...

...but let's just say...on that hazy crazy night...I enjoyed myself!

:nutz:

Were you wearing earplugs?

Nope. I was in the hall that leads to my room and was slowly turning it up with the remote. I had the meter on a stool where my chair usually is. From the hall (about 7m away) It sounded all good and no distortion was present (audible distortion that is) I was playing def leppards "photograph." BTW :thmbsp:

Klipsch RF-25's 96db 1 watt 1 meter. I held a db meter 1 meter from my speakers to hear how loud it would be and cranked it to 96db (1 watt of music power). At 2 watts the plaster would leave the walls. I don't know how you figure you can crank that kind of power without stopping your heart.

Did someone say something?

I had my HT up to 107 db while listening to Communication Breakdown from The Zep DVD. That was plenty loud for me. I can't even imagine 127 db and enjoying it.

I remember going to a KISS concert back in high school. It was so loud that when I went to bed that night my ears were ringing so badly that I couldn't sleep. It took several days for the ringing to stop. Permanent damage to my ears was done that night for sure.

I cant imagine enjoying 127dB in my listening room either. But with the door open, Its great! espeacially if im working on something or playing pool in the Rec-room :thmbsp: 107 is usually around where I have it when I want to rock out! never really goes higher unless I want to hear it in the other room
