Is it necessary to lubricate the head base slider mechanism on a cassette deck?
I have my TASCAM 246 cassette desk opened up to replace the belts and idler assembly, and I wonder if I need to do anything with the mechanism on which the head slides in/out of the cassette tape path. I've cleaned the head religiously, but I haven't touched the plates on which the head moves. There appears to be some sort of light lubricant on this mechanism, judging by the dust and Q-tip fuzz sticking to it. But, after 25+ years, whatever lubricant is there probably needs renewing. Or, are these mechanisms generally *not* lubricated and it just needs a good clearning?
Other posts on cassette deck care seem to imply that a cleaning with alcohol would suffice, but I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do for this mechanism.
