Luxman C-02 & T-02 Recap

OK...Just got this in for a CL buy...C-02 and T-02(Tuner)

Looking over some thread I see a guy in Germany upgraded the Phone section. Need to Translate this to see if I what to "as he said" Improve the Phone section sound.

Anyway...This will be the Cap List:

Main Caps: Nichicon KG
Other: Panasonic FR
BP: Nichicon ES
Phone Section Audio Caps: Nichicon ES or WIMA MKS2

After my Kenwood KA-1100SD recap using Panasonic FR..They are a Real Nice Sounding Cap. Now I would use in the Power section Nichicon PW/PM, the Panasonic FR have replaced the Nichicon PW/PM and also in General caps. In Tone/Audio section ELNA SILMIC II.

Going to put a order in this weekend after I look at the Phone section thread.

All Done!!!!

I have used Nichicon ES for the 4 Audio Caps since these are BP. Installed the Nichicon ES 1st. Going to get some hrs on these Caps... then I will try the WIMA MKS2 to compare. When I used the WIMA in the MAC 1900..they needed around 80hrs to open up.

5sec on Speaker Relay
7mins on Warm Up Light to go out

Will Post a Update Next week on the Tuner and Pre-Amp...

Next up...Luxman R-1050

That amp has seen some heat. maybe a fan install is next for that unit although some heat sinks could work, too. But then it is an old unit. Seems Luxman did not have the engineering groups working on heat as much as sound quality as I know of more than one model that suffers from heat degradation.

Fortunately this unit just looks like it gets very warm and it hasn't seriously damaged the unit, yet.

The heat marks are from the Transistors..

From the work on the other Lux...L-450, L-480 and M-120 also have Heat marks on the boards. Maybe Luxman should have used Green Boards..:D

I have had this running all night (12hrs)...Nothing as for heat.

So far the C-02 has a Very Airy Sound...Muisc is Floating.

Could you forward your parts list as I have a C-02/T-02 that could use a little love.

Thanks
OK...I will send you the Mouser part list. If there is just 1 cap value...I will order 2 or more. So the Part Count will be more then what is in the Service Manual.

I've not heard this one but I have a couple from the 70's and they are wonderful.

Do you still use this preamp? I assume not but I just got one and was wondering how the recap improved the sound. Mine lacks a little bottom end. But sounds very nice otherwise.

@pjrengineer :
Hey Mate. Pretty old thread so a response maybe doubtful; I didn't know you were a member subscriber.. I know you listen to LP's so the phono section perhaps on post number one. A lot depends on your power amp. output, too and speaker response at lower hz.

(shoot me a message or call.

Perhaps you can try changing C106a/b to 4.7uF, Nichicon BP ES or Wima MKS2 (pitch 5mm) fit just fine. C106 is phono output coupling. Another thing is upping C113 and C114 to 330uF might help up the bass. Nichicon UFG fit well, Silmic is too big for the available space.

Eventually I’ll get around to this thank you for the heads up.

HI,

Hello to all lucky owner of Luxman C-02!
I bought this amazing preamp few months ago and decided to make some basic improvements of it. Clean the impedance selector switch (desolder it, carefully dismantle, clean the silver contacts - this works very well http://www.darylscience.com/Demos/Silver.html , finally lubricate and preserve with DeoxIt), clean other pots and switches with DeoxIt too, resolder all contacts on the board, make recaping. For recaping I have used exclusively Elna Silmic II. By measuring this caps I have found, that every cap has only 3-4 % tolerance (very nice), although manufacturer declare 20%.
After restoration and recaping it sounds more firmly, with higher separation of each voice/instrument, but with little lack of bass - can confirm pjrenginner statement. It has only 7 hours after recap, so I expect how it will change after time.
During changing of caps I have found out, that in my unit is on position C 402 capacitor with value 22uF, although in accordance with schematics it should have a capacity of 10uF. It didn´t look like somebody change it in the past, it seemed like original.
I would like to ask you for quick look inside yours units, if you have the same situation inside.
After all, it shouldn´t be a first case of contradiction between schematics and real state by C-02 - http://www.ps-service.cz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=625

Thx

try the low boost button. I’ll check my preamp eventually and get back with you.

Nice thread.
My R-1120 gets hot. I'll need to keep these comments in mind. I had a professional clean the pots and what not, and align the tuner. Still got smoke/ash/soot/dust/whatever in the tape dubbing and mono-stereo switches.

Good luck with the C-02 restorations.
