Magnavox 1P3811 Chassis

Hi, I'm Ed and I'm new to this site. I have an old Magnavox solid state (Model 1P3811) Console type Stereo. The turntable has given out but I have been playing CDs through it via tape jacks that are on the back. One of the stereo channels has just quit. I am prepared to trouble shoot it and see it I can fix it, but I can't get through the first step which is figuring out how to remove the electronics chassis containing the tuner, preamp and amplifier. It looks like it should come out vertically. I don't want to break the plastic coverplate. I took all the knobs off but it is still firmly attached. I took the back off the console but I find no screws that hold the chassis to the console.

Can anyone help me?

Thanx, Ed

Hey Ed, welcome to AK! After removing the knobs, look down inside the shafts. Two of them will have hexigon nuts on them that hold the plastic face plate down. Remove the nuts and the faceplate will come off. After removing the faceplate, you will see the screws that hold the chassis to the cabinet. Remove the screws, and the chassis will slide up and out.

There are four screws in total. Make sure you disconnect all wires leading to the amp (Rca cables( turntable), power cord, aux and playback cords etc.
I find it easier to remove the turntable first. This will give you better access to the top two screws. Remove the bottom ones first,Lossen the upper screws enough to keep the amp in place, Then finish unscrewing by HAND while holding the amp in place so that it won't fall. Lift out:yes:

I looked for the nuts and found a couple that appear to be holding down the faceplate. However, they are thin internal hex nuts. Do they require a special wrench that has an external hex configuration and a hole in the center big enough to fit over the pot or switch shaft and bushing?
