Marantz 22xx or ??? for headphones

I like Marantz
Hi. I am new here and am about to get my first vintage receiver. I placed an ad:

It is for a Marantz 22xx receiver. I will be using it mostly with various headphones and occasionaly with Yamaha NS-6 speakers. I am thinking that the Marantz 22xx receivers are the best for inexpensive receivers that can run headphones very well. Are there any other recommendations for $30-$50 that would amplify headphones better than Marantz 22xx receivers?

With a budget of $30-50 you might find yourself hardpressed to locate a Marantz 22xx within that price range. If you do a quick look on eBay I think you'll discover that even the lowest Marantz models (ie lowest wattage receivers like a 2216) will usually sell for at least $50, depending on their condition, and will need another $15-20 minimum to pack properly and ship to you.

With this in mind, if you're really set on a Marantz receiver, I think your best bet would be to hit the local thrifts and/or pawn shops. However, I think you could also do very well with a vintage receiver of another brand that you could find for less $$$ than an equivalent Marantz. Pioneer is another excellent brand, as many on this board will attest to, but there are many others that I'm sure you'd be very pleased with.

Look around these boards for a bit, look on eBay, and see what you like and don't like. I will say that I'm a huge fan of Marantz and recommend them whole heartedly, but locating one in good shape within your budget might prove difficult. Goodluck.

Thanks for the info. I have never heard a Marantz but so many people say they are so good for the money and that they are well built. The huge following convinced me. I guess parts are easy to come by too. So I hope that I come across one.
