Marantz 2500 Filter capacitor options

Hi all Marantz 2500 experts, I have been trawling the Marantz 2500 posts here to see what options people have done to replace the filter capacitors it seems some restuff the originals or replace with 4 larger capacitors -I'm inclined to replicate what xraytony and others have done with 4 capacitors instead of reshuffling the originals but it seems everyone is out of stock of the 8200uf 100v screw terminal capacitors - would going to 10,000uf x 4 be ok or do will it cause issues for the transformer and powerswitch? Has anyone used snap in terminal capacitors for this job or is a screw terminal the best way forward? Cheers!

I had only done restuffs on 2500's but did do a couple of 2600's with external caps. I used 8 3900uF at 100V for that. I wish I could have gotten higher voltage rated caps but nothing worked out. The 8 caps are mounted to a 1/16" piece of fiberglass sheet I got from McMaster Carr. I have a pattern you can have if you want it as I'm not doing these beasts anymore. Here's some pictures.

Well if you decide to restuff the cans I have used 16 of the ESMQ161VSN182MQ4 which are 1800uF@160V measuring 45mm length by 25mm diameter, 8 of these fit snugly into the empty filter cap can. They are also getting very hard to find but are still available at onlinecomponents.com (minimum order is for 20).

that looks like it could work too thanks for sharing! Quick check mouser didn’t have these caps either but I’ll keep looking around!

Very thorough job! Looks good I am not too confident doing a restuff but you did a neat job if I can’t find any caps to do an array this may be the only option
 
Wow that’s a lot of work using either method. I could look into designing a new one, need the pcb dimensions, hole positions, sizes etc. If you send me the old blank pcb that would be best. PM me if you are interested.

thanks very much for the offer I do have someone local who’s looking to make a Perspex one but I’m sure plenty of people here will want one pending which caps they use - I plan to use 8200uf x 4 once back in stock if I get stuck on getting a solution will certainly reach out :)
 
Seems like the 8200uf I wanted are hard to find now, will 9100uf x 4 be ok instead with the current rectifiers or will they need upgrading??

I thought i would go this route for my 2500 and 2600 so ordered a case of 50. Upon measuring, all tested 15% under value. So while within the +/- 20% standard, and not a big deal for one cap, 8 of them became a substantial loss in overall capacitance. No more 7200. Ive since been trying to find an alternative path. Or, you find 6120uf in this position acceptable?
Did you measure all your caps, and not come up with this issue , or you deem this an non issue.
 
Maybe it's because they haven't been "formed up" yet that they measure low. It could also be how they measure with your particular meter and what frequency it uses. That frequency may not be how those particular caps were spec'd at. I also have noted that as I have measured old caps on my Peak meter, they tend to measure over value, especially as they are more swollen out the lead end.
