Marantz 300DC - what to check before sending to repair?

Hello,

I got a Marantz 300DC which has been kept unused for ages in a storage, it was dusty, to a visual check it seems nothing is wrong and never been modified or fixed, I think the meters lights are gone and a kind of rotary selector on the back left has a broken seal so it fell inside the case.

Before I take it to the guy who usually does this kind of things for me, who at the moment is very busy and won't be able to check it before a month to say the least, what would you advise to check provided I only have a couple of DigitalMultiMeters?

I actually run my JBL L220 with an AR SP9 preamp and a KT88 push-pull power amp, the Marantz could be a good match for the speakers power wise, have no clue about the sound but in any case I'd like to restore it to either keep or eventually sell.

Any suggestion for a first check?

Thank you

Is the rotary selector you are referring not the fuse? if so, I would check to make sure your fuse is working first and that it is secured correctly and not just hanging inside.

voltage selector i guess .
file.php

Ah yes, the international models. Well, then check that too and make sure it is set to correct supply voltage. Either of those things will surely prevent your unit from powering on.

The tension switch is loose but I can measure with a DMM what the tension is, the bottom rotary switch is loose, I guess there was a gasket/seal around it

How is this amp, worth repairing?

The bottom one with the screw is the fuse. If your fuse is blown, it obviously won't power on. The 300DC is definitely worth repairing. Quite rare nowadays and very sought after!

It's getting late now and I wanna walk with the dog but either tonight or tomorrow will remove the lid and show you the inside so you can tell me it's state, I guess the caps are to be replaced for sure

If this is what your fuse holder looks like, just send it to a tech! Don't plug it in!!
That's how it is, the guy who got me the amp said he plugged it in the AC (sigh...) and he only noticed the vu meters not powering up which I guess normal as the bulbs are probably long time gone

Regardless, get it fixed up before turning it on.

It's almost xmas and my skilled tech asked me to go pick the Marantz 300DC up, I will swap it with the Aeron AP890, a push pull of KT88, and have it driven by an Audio Research SP9 (MKI version) and to drive the JBL L220, any suggestions to make the test/transition smooth and to avoid anything to blow out?

If you have any link to tests/reviews of the 300DC I'd really appreciate

Grazie
