Marantz 4300 tuning meter problem.

So I have a Marantz 4300 with the Tuning meter not moving as I move the stations. The fm works just fine but no stereo lamp comes on either. The lamp works just fine just not coming on during fm. So what happens is the tuning meter is center when off, when I power on it drops to the left and fluctuates very slightly upon moving the tuning wheel. Signal meter works great as I am getting plenty of signal. What could this possibly be? Thanks

The tuner needs alignment. This requires specialized rf test equipment. Do not attempt to do it yourself or you could mess up the adjustments even more than they are. If you tell us your location someone may know a qualified tech in your area.

I have the test equipment and tools but I don’t do alignments. I will tweak the tuning a bit on other receivers but not full alignments.

It sounds as though the discriminator is out of alignment. It is not hard to align. Use ONLY the correct plastic alignment tool to adjust. Service manual states in step 8 of the FM alignment "Adjust secondary core (upper) of discriminator transformer L201 so that the center tuning meter pointer indicates its center at no signal applied". Basically disconnect the antenna, and tune to a spot on the dial with no signal, and adjust the upper core of L201 to center the meter.

Thanks I will give that a try, I do have the plastic alignment tools

Also I recapped the power supply, Preamp recap & new transistors and also new transistors in the tone control hiss is gone. The issue is Front left channel only is causing some rumble. The power amp is recapped as well, I can’t find anything out of spec except 1 output transistor hfe of 13 which is an NTe87 this was changed out before me. I use the power amp only with the jumpers removed and my problem is still there. Can’t find a thing, been on this so long pulling my hair out LOL. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
