Marantz 500: new record high?

That sale had a thread here. I think.
Completly amazing sale.
I guess claiming that Bob Havland worked on it and fixed it made some folks feel all warm and fuzzy.

I noted that it had not been "restored". Note that no cap replacement was listed.

Seems crazy, but, since I have a 500, I'm liking it.

EDIT: (you know, I thought the sale I'm talking about claimed that it had been brought up and a variac and feet were replaced...I smell something funny)

as a marantz fan... I'd love one. On the subject of high end marantz kit... what do people think of the new pm-11s3 vs the original pm-15's?

I call BS.

The seller has feedback for one back in Sept 2010 that supposedly went 4K.
There is feedback that the one that started this thread sold.
Now this one is listed.

NO one has 3 to sell.

This is a shill seller.

I wouldn't be too hasty to call it BS just because he has three 500 amps to sell. If you check the last sold listing and the current active one, each amp has his own serial number. One is 1370 and the other is 1374.

I have two of these amps myself. Therefore, I am not shock to see someone with three of these monster amps.

Hmmm, I didn't catch that. I hope its real, since I have one. I'd love to see the value actually be there.

Just seems odd that they go that high without a complete restore.
Also seems odd that they have 3.

And you have 2. Wow.

They only made, what, 1000 of them?

I do found it odd with the high recent prices. I am not yet ready to sell mine but would definitely would think twice if someone offer me that much dough for each amp. One of mine amp is currently put away in the closet in its original double boxes, styrofoam and manual. They are not being used because I am now playing with a pair of Sansui BA 5000. :D

Could the Marantz 500 be the audio equivalent of the '71 Hemi 'Cuda convertible?

Marantz 500s are nice amps :thmbsp: but I wouldn't go that far with that comparison. They are few vintage monster amps that can compete with the 500.

If you are only into collecting Marantz, then I would say it is one of their top dog solid state amp.

Hypothetically what price range would you guys say a recently fully restored very good cond (say 7-8 out of 10) 500 go for?
Missing the front door but hardly any scratches and everything works perfectly.

3000
3500
4000?
