Marantz 5000 Cassette Deck...

Greetings to all Marantzaholics,

This deck turned up locally. Can anyone supply any information on it.

Did a Google search and did not find much info...

Did find a pix. Seller claims works ok...but you never know.
I have some older cassettes from my old old studio days that I would like to play and this deck would look good next to my Marantz 4270.

I guess it is just a 2 head deck, but it is middle of the road...entry level or what.

Would kinda like to know the quality level before I make a trip to look at it.

Thanks for any help...AKers are a great source of information.

Thanks I missed that some how. He lists it as extra rare

I think I will e-mail the guy and see if he still has it. If so I will go and take a look at it and see how much he wants for it.

Thanks again for the information.

The 5000 was the entry level Marantz deck. Not as many features as something like a 5020, but still a nice basic deck. Marantz decks usually need new belts, but they are easy to replace. It's worth a shot, but I'd look at a 5020 if you wanted a closer match with your 4270.

Thanks for the info..I thought it kinda looked entry level...However you know the saying "A deck in the hand is worth two out there somewhere" to paraphrase just a little.

In the middle of the corn belt not much to choose from. Have not spotted much to choose from when checking out the usual suspects.

I did see some info on the 5020 and some others that looked nice. I think I will e-mail the guy and see what comes up.

At least I have something to go on when talking price.

Who knows? Maybe I can get it for a song so to speak. At least I would be able to play my tapes. Give it a good cleaning and lubing, feed it a new belt and demag the heads.

Of course that is only half of it. It required that pix be taken and posted and a run down of the process be posted also.

So much to do...So little time!

Again thanks for the info. I am just sorry I has taken me this long to discover AK and all the great people here!

The 5000 was entry level. And for some reason it was not the same size as the others, being slightly taller and a bit narrower, so it would not fit properly into the rack that everybody used back then.
But if somebody can post a how-to on belt replacement I'd appreciate it, being a complete amateur.

Seller replied with phone number

Thanks everyone for the great info.

Seller replied with phone number.

I gave him a call and I am on my way to take a look.

Of course he said it works great, but I will take a close look at it.

Especially the tape head.
