Marantz AV7701 Pre Pro

Just purchased the 7701 pre pro. Works and sounds very good, however the owners manual is terrible. I am trying to set up the ARC connection (TV - to pre pro) so I can pull sound from the TV through the sound system. The manual tells me to be sure HDMI Control is set to "on". Never tells me where to do that and I've been through every menu. Am I missing something obvious? The Sharp Aquos TV has an ARC HDMI input. If anyone knows how to do this, I would appreciate the help.

I have a Yamaha AVR and a sharp aquos TV and use the ARC feature. With the receiver, not only did I have to turn on HDMI Control, but I also had to turn on ARC (found both under "Setup/ HDMI"). And if I remember correctly, I also had to go into the TV menu and enable ARC.
 
thanks, I haven't managed to find that option on either the pre pro or the Aquos. I'll keep looking.
 
Enter Setup mode, then Video, then HDMI Setup. It's in the book...

Looks like they've arranged things a bit different from my AV7005.

If all else fails, download the manual in PDF format from Marantz then you can search in the manual using the Acrobat search function.

As to any HDMI control settings in the TV, you'll likely find them in the setup menu that deals with whatever Sharp calls their HDMI link/control system. In the case of my Panasonic TV, all that stuff is in the Setup > VIERA Link settings menu.

And, yes, the HDMI jack on the TV that has ARC capability must be the one connected to the pre/pro.

Otherwise, HDMI Control is listed in the table of contents on Page 92 of the manual

General details about ARC are on pages 9 and 10,

Specific "how to enable ARC" on Page 117

...but forget all that, just press" Setup" Navaigate to "video" then "HDMI". You can turn on "HDMI Control" and as long as your set supports ARC, you'll be able to hear what's playing from your TV through your new preamp.

Please note that the Source for ARC signals on the AV7701 is called "TV Audio"

thanks for all the replies. I will give it another go. I must say though, that I have visited all the pages in the manual, p 117, p 92 etc. that mention HDMI control - on, but it never really explains how to do it through the interface. I will try Redcoate's advice of skipping the manual and going through the menu. Seems that I have it set up correctly. Perhaps my HDMI cable is bad, or is the wrong version.

The preamp does sound really good in both stereo and movie modes.
 
Thanks to all who helped out on the ARC issue on my Marantz AV7701. Works like a charm. I don't know how I missed it the first couple of times through the setup menu.
