I am waiting on my new Model 16B to show up. It has an issue with one channel out. The glass for the front panel is missing. I have to have that cool "Power Stereo Amplifier" in blue panel glass. Is the glass on the Model 16B and Model 32 the exact same. Does anyone know a company that can reproduce this glass panel. I will probably have many questions when I start the restore. I am not an electronics tech. I have been successful restoring and repairing vintage gear by asking questions and following the advice of those on this site who know. More to come...

You might try radiodaze.com to see if they can make the glass. Good luck.
I did contact them, but it doesn't sound encouraging. The guy "John" responded a couple times to my request and doesn't sound like it is doable.

Thanks for the response.

The insert is not glass, it's plastic. The black frame and the part that shows "Power - Stereo - Amplifier" is the same as the Model 32. The clear plastic part that the bulbs fit into are very different. - Chris

Maybe you can get a clean digital image of it and bring it into Photoshop to change the dimensions.

From there have someone cut it in vinyl, stick it onto a piece of lexan, paint over it and peel it off?

Thanks for the info, Chris. I am going to restore this nice amp. It has some issues with one channel (monobloc). I have read most of what I can find about this amp and restoring/repairing it, including your nice and informative write-up on faultlineaudio. I am going to start a thread on it's restore and try and document as much as I can. There isn't a lot of info on these amps. I welcome you and others to drop in. I am not a tech, but a noobie/enthusiast and will have many questions I'm sure. So, it's plastic. I am also missing the piece that the bulbs go into. I have contacted some companies and nobody seems to enthused about trying to reproduce it. Of course, I told them it was glass. May be being plastic will change things. Failing that, I will probably try and do it myself. Thanks again.

This is definitely something to look at. Thanks.

Just do A LOT of research before you start ripping into it electronically speaking. I'm no expert on the 16 or the early models but I have read that a number of those parts are not available or difficult as best to replace.

Yeah, I see that too. Fortunately many of the parts have modern equivalents. I will open my thread in the Marantz forum when I start. Thanks.

Been a while since I posted the thread. I have begun to tear the amp down and it doesn't seem like it has been molested much over the years. Most components appear to be original. I have pulled the original output and driver transistors and they check good on my meter. I am noticing that the op amp appears to have been changed and it doesn't look like the LM201 it should have. The other monobloc has the LM201 installed. I see where Texas Instruments still sells the op amp as LM201A. I'm going to make a bold assumption that this new op amp is a drop in replacement. Can someone, please, verify my assumption concerning the op amp. Thanks for looking.

PS
JUst found a datasheet on the old National Semiconductor (now Texas Instruments) and the specs match up to the new LM201A. It also states the LM741 op amp is a direct replacement for the LM201A.

Hi guys, it's been a while since I've done anything on this amp. I have one of the monoblocs torn down and have received my parts. One thing I am changing is the Op Amp. One monobloc clearly has theLM201 opamp but the one I am repairing (which someone repaired before) has an Opamp that doesn't say LM201. I bought new Opamps for replacement. I have a question about the Opamp removal. It is installed in what appears to be a socket. Does this Opamp just be removed by pulling it out or does the whole thing need to be desoldered. I know this question may sound foolish to those that know, but I am a noobie/hobbiest at best on this stuff. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hello !

Does this Opamp just be removed by pulling it out or does the whole thing need to be desoldered.

Sorry for you but it need to be desoldered . I 've made many models 16B and get this problem .

I have produced a new relay pcb to be used with actual relays !

Desoldered huh. What purpose does the socket have. It seems like the opamp just pulls free from its socket, but I have never removed one. I have two new ones if I damage them. Thanks for the reply.

The black plastic part is not a socket ! that's why you have to desolder it to take it off the pcb , no other way ....if you have any doubt watch carefully inside the holes , you will not see any contact !

What purpose does the socket have ?

every transistors (except for TO92 type) on this pcb do have "spacer" under them , you don't know why ?
impedance reason !

Thanks again for the response, Clinic. So, they are just spacers. What confused me is this http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/418/_4-1437508-6_99-665643.pdf
