Marantz SR 6000

Je me Souviens
Would like to know your though/impressions on the Marantz SR 6000 Receiver made in the late 70s and early 80s.

Would also like to know if it compares well to the 22xx series.
Thanks

Are you buying one? Which one? The DC model? I have a 6010 DC, which is the same only one or two years younger. I like it. In 1983, I bought it new at the AAFES store in Germany off the clearance rack for $300 and set it up with a Pioneer PL-707 turntable and a pair of Cerwin Vega D6E's. (which my younger brother has since seem to think he inherited....) It has the best flywheel tuner action of all my Marantz's and the FM tuners reception is pretty dern good too. Has about 80 wpc. and it's loud. It also sounds pretty good to me. Not as good as my 170DC, but pretty dern good. I bought a simulated wood case in very good condition on eBay about a year ago for $5. It's lookin' purty.

The build quality isn't probably as good as the 22XX's, such as the faceplate is thinner and the internals aren't quite the same, but if it had the right price, I would definitely consider it.

I have some literature if you are interested.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I'm considering an offer to buy one, although we are only in the first stage of communicating with each other.
So far I'm not aware if it is a DC model, only that it is an SR6000 Marantz, and not being familiar with this model, hence my questions.
I also bought audio equipment in Germany in the 70s and early 80s, but my preference in those years were the Pioneer brand.

I'm not looking for a price to offer, only the quality of this receiver, compared to other brands from the same era and also the pre-80s Marantz receivers and integrated.
Somebody that I know around my place, has told me the same as you, good receiver but somewhat below the quality of the 22xx series, but still worthwhile to own.

I would definitely like some literature if you have them.
Thanks for the offer.

Here's mine. Most people consider the '80's Marantz not as good quality wise from the '70's models due to Phillips buying out Marantz with a few exceptions.

Some specs and 1980 catalog pic's.

Interesting, it is rated 10 wpc less than the 6010 DC, or so says that website. The catalog pic says 88 wpc.

You got Audiokarma mail....

Reading the specs that you sent me on the 6010DC versus the specs on the SR6000, the 6010 is 88W,and the 6000 is 70W .
There is also the DC annotation which I did'nt find anything about so far.

I have responded to this person and still waiting for her response on my offer, maybe tomorrow.

Yeah. But in the Catalog picture, I believe it states the 6000 as being 88 wpc., which I would tend to believe more correct.

Which Air Force base where you stationed at in Germany in the 80s. Meself I was in Lahr/Schwarzwald for 6 years from the mid 70s to early 80s.

Yeah. But in the Catalog picture, I believe it states the 6000 as being 88 wpc., which I would tend to believe more correct.

Yes I see that, although it could be rated at 4ohms. 70 or 88 watts, it is still plenty for me anyway.
Hopefully she likes my offer, my own amp is on the fritz at this time, and it might cost me an arm and a leg to get it back in working order.

Was never in Aschaffenburg, but I went quite often in Frankfurt Am Main and Offenbach Am Main, not too far from your base. As a matter of fact, I never new there was an Army Base so close to Offenbach.

Did a few Volksmarch in Darmstadt. It's a small world.

Hey! I did a Volksmarch in Darmstadt too! 1984. I even have a little plaque from it still. Yep. It's a small world. And I truly believe that. I ran into a guy from my home town in Frankfurt once. It really is a small world...
