Martin Audio III's...First Look!

Drove an hour each way to pick up two pairs of these...

Seller claims three of the four have blown tweeters. I will have to check the caps and l-pads first.

They have dual 10" woofers in separate sealed chambers. Stamped steel baskets with pleated paper surrounds. Surrounds are well doped and still flexible. No voice coil rub when pressed by hand.

The mid and both tweeters are also in their own sealed chamber.

The mid seems to be a 4", stamped steel basket and paper cone.

The tweeters are horns with a what seems to be a choke attached to the negative and positive terminals.

I will check all of them tomorrow with my meter and phase detector. If they pass I will hook them up to my test rig and report back.

Here are some pictures.

Interesting, never seen those before. They appear to be well built. Hope you can get those tweeters singing, I'd like to get a review of the sound.

Jailtime,
I will as soon as possible.

Fraggle,
You are right, I spoke to Mr. Martin on the phone. Very nice guy. Sent me some old ads and photographs. His commitment to quality is very refreshing. I told him about the tweeters being out and he is going to suggest upgrades. I will get back after the listening tests.

Martins vs Linns

Like my Linns....Love my Martins

clyde,

I thought so too...it's not everyday you get to speak to the person who actually built the equipment you are listening to...
