Mayonnaise jar as record clamp?

I tried it but couldn't get past the look of a plastic blue lid on my TT. I wonder if a hockey puck would be too heavy? Any other suggestions for a cheap and easy to make record clamp?

I think im going try the hockey puck idea tomorrow and I will let you know. Most of the good clamps I have seen have been much heavier. Maybe I won't have to get that new TT.

I just weighed a hockey puck: 5 3/4 oz.

If a simple weight will suffice (i.e. - your TT suspension and bearings can handle it), pull the counterweight from the tuner knob off an old receiver. Clean it well and line the thru-hole with some very thin adhesive foam so it will self-center on the spindle.

Done.

I tried this about 25 years ago. It tastes like turpentine.

But back to the original post topic...

My VPI clamp looks a lot like this but it is inverted. The clamp is a circular edge against the record label, and a threaded knob on top of that. It doesn't work like the mayonnaise top.
