MB Quart

Yesterday I received a pair of MB Quart bookshelf speaker from my order. I think the model is MB Quart QL C204. They did not come with the grill. I paid 80.00 for them. There are some peel on the top of the finish. Also a slight peel on the speaker cone and a slight dent on the other speaker cone. Are they worth it at that price? There are no review for them, but they do sound very clear & efficient speakers to my ear.

The picture attached is to just to show what the bookshelf speaker look like.

I also try to get MB Quart S330 center speaker, but the bidding was too much for me. It went near the 300.00 dollars. That is too much. I went for a lower cost center speaker, MB quart 304 center. Paid 54.00 dollars shipped.

I looked into MB-Quart company. The company does its own driver and does have a design room where they tested they own speakers. Sound like they are a good company and have high quality standard to their audio gear.

Quart 390 MCS

I just got a pair of Quart 390 MCS floorstanding speakers. The seller said that he got them in 1994 for $1,000, and that they were made when Quart was still a top flight German company. I think he said that he got them in Germany.

Searching for this model on Google, I found that most of the hits were from Germany, which suggests to me that it was a domestic model not imported into the US.

Nowhere does it say MB Quart on these, just Quart, but it has to be the same company. Supply your own joke about their replacing the pint-size speakers I had in there before...

They are two way speakers, though there's a small grill area next to the tweeter labelled "Moving Control System" that seems to have a 1/3" hole behind it. I have no idea what this is--does anyone out there? Some sort of feedback device? I could unscrew the grill but I am reluctant to tamper with these nicely built speakers.

First listening impressions are very favorable--it seems like my kind of speaker. Clear, accurate, uncolored sound, fine transient response, well balanced frequency response. (I thought the bass was awfully heavy at first, until I realized that I had left on the preamp's loudness control from the night before! Felt like a fool.)

If anyone knows anything about these, or where I might look for information, I'd appreciate a post.

Back when MB Quart was a German company, it used to supply its driver to many top-flight speaker companies. However, several years ago, the company was purchased by Rockford Industries (of Rockford Fosgate fame) and was in the same stable as NHT. Both NHT and MB Quart have since been sold, again, to other companies. While NHT is still able to continue on its own path, I don't know what has happened to MB Quart.
