wondering what some thoughts are on the MC100 mono. I can acquire one for $375 it works and has a 30 day warranty from my local dealer. I know nothing about this amp at all and can’t find any for sale to compare prices. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This amp, 3 ML1 ( or JBL, Altec etc.) speakers and a MC2100 and you could have a serious pro style LCR theater start.

These amps most likely spent their lives as a mono channel for either pro use or in a lab situation.

Let me ask you this because I really know nothing. I run a turntable into a lounge LCR into a Sanaui G-5500 to some paradigm 7 bookshelf speakers. What if anything could I use just one of these for? Or would a need another one to do anything more than look at it?

As it is a mono, one channel amp it's uses are restricted in the home use audio world.

Pio1980 has had a 50 watt mono Mac amp now for years that he has been befuddled on how to use.

There is three channel stereo for theater across the front, which in the pro style uses 3 identical full range speakers and matching amps.

Then in again the home theater vein you have a subwoofer or effect channel.

You could use this amp to add a non powered sub to your home 2 channel system.

In the pro would these amps where used for church PA, clarion or call to worship steeple systems, mono gym or distributed audio systems......or in a lab to run accoutic tests or even shaker tables.

If you visit Roger Russell's McIntosh history site you will see any number of high quality mono amps custom made for major industry users.

Thank you for all the information. That explained everything for me. I don’t really do any type of home theatre stuff. So if I had 2 then I could use it for analog setup like I have?

One MC100 for Right Channel and one MC100 for Left Channel. The ultimate in vintage McIntosh SS mono-blocks! Of course, finding a 2nd will prove to be a challenge.

OR, as c_dk suggested, pair the single MC100 with a MC2100 and a Mc preamp of the same vintage with a Center channel output to create a 3-channel audio system, popular in the '70s. This was common for folks with Klipshorns. Khorns have to be so far apart to image correctly when your seated 10 feet from them so a Belle, LaScala, Cornwall, or Heresy was commonly used as a center channel speaker to bridge the gap so to speak. The system would have looked something like this:

C26 or C28 preamp
L&R Outputs > MC2100 (or MC2105) > Klipschorns
Center Output > MC100 > Belle

As mentioned the MC100 is an ultra rare unit but they do occasionally appear on the auction site - and sometimes as singles. May take some time but sooner or later it's bound to happen. Happy searching.

Your Sansui does not have a preamp output that I can see and so there is no way to connect and use the Sansui with any separate power amp like the MC100. So, you would need a second MC100 (one for each of your speakers for stereo) and a preamp (and a tuner) and these would replace your Sansui.

Finding a second MC100 might be impossible or take a long time. I would not buy this amp as a collectable or investment and in your case, I would not buy it at all.

Thanks for all
The advice. I may just get it and hold onto it until I hopefully find another one. If I don’t find one then my grandkids can obviously think it’s junk and throw it way.

Thanks I am considering all options at this point. I don’t need it but if I was ever able to find another one then I would have something. Not interested in an investment at all I just like vintage stuff. The money seems like a lot but I spend more on barrel aged KBS a year than the price of the MC100.

Providing them with an education on the subject would be an excellent way of spending some "quality time" with Grandpa while helping them develop an appreciation of the wonderful hobby of hi fi. :)
