MC2505

Tia

Did you say birds?
Have a line on a McIntosh MC2505. Looks to be in great cosmetic shape. This will be my first McIntosh. Anything in particular I should look out for? Will be driving a pair of Cornwalls.

Gain pots, NLA and they go bad. Can be rebuilt.

If it has been serviced (documented), big plus. Glass condition and (chrome) chassis condition are important.

Lamps can be an issue, but there's replacement kits available. The blue gels can also discolor(brown spots) from heat over time. The meters themselves can go wonky from corroded contacts, but that's a fairly simple fix.

Oh. And see if the seller will throw in a back brace for lifting that sucker ... <G>

Nice looking unit.

If it is being shipped to you, make certain that the seller does NOT ship the amp while it's still in the case.

and that it is bolted down or in some other way will not slide round in the shipping box.....A AC box or the correct original box packed correctly is a must.

No worries guys and gals, A trusted friend and fellow ak'er is heading that way on business and will be transporting back to my home in his warm and cozy suv.

I have one and you are going to love it. You will have more than enough power driving your Cornwalls. When I first got mine I bench tested it and it delivered well over 50 Watts per channel with low distortion. Congratulations!

Thanks, md.
I'm excited to see how the MC2505 stacks up against my Sansui AU11000.

I've had one in the past, regretted trading it away more than any other gear I let go of. It was the early version with the VU meter bezels like an mc2300. I just recently got another one...a MC2505-2 and it really scratches that itch. I have mine hooked up to Altec valencias right now, Cornwalls will also sound fantastic.

Even then, it should NOT be transported in the cabinet! There are just too many tales of woe when this is done.

Larry

Probably not a bad idea to bolt it to a piece of plywood during transport as well to protect the glass.
