MC2KW's

We just got in a set of MC2Kw's on trade and I am wondering what the long term review of owners of these amps are? These amps never cease to amaze me in terms of sound quality even at low levels. Not only can they make the walls shake but they also has an amazing amount of control at low volumes. I notice on quiet passages that the sound stage is huge and every instrument is very distinct without getting bright. What have other MC2KW owners found?

Don't own them (yet)...but had the chance to audition them on several occasions.

For me, the one singular thing that separates these behemoths from every other amp I ever auditioned, regardless of price, is the way they handle transients...I guess that is what makes them so natural and musical (cymbals, hi-hats, attack of notes)...they amplify music to real world size...doesn't matter at what volume.

BTW...taking into account the logarithmic nature of sound and power...2000W vs 1000W is no big deal...but it does help in approaching the ideal of an infinite current source.

You should be warned though...once you audition them with the right source material and content, it does take a while to get used to more modest setups

:D:yes:Been thinking about adding those big boys but there is some concern for intereference with the active volcanoes on KONA and trying to avoid SEISMIC turmoil in the neighborhood!:D:D:smoke::D

Seriously, they are the Crown Jewel of Amps. I own a few more sets, space & current prevent me from Tri-Amping my XRT2K's with them.

Cool Factor is off the chart...

:scratch2::scratch2:what do you use to drive the mids/tweeties???:scratch2::D:D:smoke::D....If it weren't for current and space...you would triamp with the big boys??:tears::yes:

I drive the mids/tweeters with MC1.2KW's each, 4400 watts per side.

Yes, absolutely; I would hit them with 6K watts per side.

Dear Ivan,

You should, at least for once HIT them with 6k watts .... to at least taste what this could be .... and for sure, you will never know if you dont. 4400 to common folks like me is terrifying, but to taste the ultimate performance which you are capable of supporting and not doing so, is a sheer waste of opportunity.

Sorry for the word, but really, if it was me in this position, I would surely go for this, even though it may mean shutting down the total HT system for a while.

Oh well, just a nutty thought! I am sure one day, you may go do it and I wil surely wait for the day to read your review and sharing of the ultimate 2 channel McIntosh experience!

Cheers!
