Tom Manley has an MC40 emblem on his site for sale. (mcintoshaudio.com) The emblems are at the top of his list of equipment for sale. Audio Classics may have one.

Thanks, I sent a mail off to Tom to see if he has one. Just landed a super nice Grason Stadler (MC40) so it's missing the emblem. Odd thing is this was never modified to the GS circuitry, it's still 100% Mc

This is branded Grason Stadler 162k BUT that looks like a stock Mc knob and I checked the circuit between input and first 12ax7. No mods apparent and no hookup for a VU meter. It is currently being used as a center channel amp with my MC 20. Using an EV 15TRX in an EV Royal corner cab and it sounds wonderful bone stock. It's still sporting all original components. I do plan on recapping it this weekend though.

Maybe I don't fully grasp the rarity of the MC40. Tom has a nice emblem but he's asking $115 plus shipping.. I was kind of expecting $50 bucks or so but I have to admit that $115 has given me a bit of sticker shock. Am I off base and just being cheap, is this going rate for something like this? Heck, that's more than 1/8th of the purchase price of this amp. :scratch2:

sorry bought the pics of the front of the amp but that is a true grason stadler amp .even the link you provided doesnt look like the one i had .i forget what the switch does but its there.as for the side of the amp missing the emblem they never came with one.it was a rebranded mc40 for grason stadler and instead of making a side plate without the holes they just used a side plate for a mc 40.

fwiw iirc if the mod was in place youd notice a lower gain from the amp.
This amp is a bit of a puzzle.. as far as gain goes I'm running an HK Citation II for left and right channel with Altec 604c's. Mc C20. The center channel is the MC 40 with an EV TRX15 and Royal Corner Cab. With the gain all the way up on the Mc it out powers the HK which is rated at 60 per.. the center channel stands out with the "40".. these aren't the same speakers etc etc.. but the point is there is plenty of gain! and no apparent mods to this amp. The only conclusion I can come to is that this was silk screened and never got to be modded. All in all a great find for me at $820..
