Does anyone have any experiance with the MCD 751 and MDA 700? I know they were replaced by the MCD 1000/MDA 1000.Any pros or cons.I have not read much about the two.I wonder if they match the performnce of the MCD 201 or better it.Were these not a popular model for Mcintosh? The new 1000's are over twice the price as the 751/700.There is a pair for sale on Agon and I would like an opinion from any one who knows about them before I consider the purchase.

I can't quite give you an answer, because I don't have an MCD-1000. I have an MDA-1000, MS-300, MCD-205 and both of the 751 and 700.

The 751/1000 blows the 751/700 away. The 205 is better than the 751/700 but the difference is smaller, and the MS-300 as a source is about the same as using the 751.

For the price of a used 751/700 I think you can get better sound, but not better build quality or long-term value.

I haven't heard one yet, but several friends that have (and one that bought), have remarked that the 201 outperforms everything but the 1000/1000 by a healthy margin, including the 205, 861 etc.

One opined that he liked the 201 better than the 1000/1000... there's no explaining that. Time does indeed march on, but some things remain the same.
