McIntosh CD Players

When did McIntosh first start making CD players. I have a C-28 pre and a MR-77 tuner. I want to match the esthetics as close as possible. Which MAC player would that be? Thanks to all that respond:scratch2:

The first McIntosh CD player was the MCD7000 in June 1985. The C28 and MR77 were both made from about 1970-1978. McIntosh looks do not greatly change over the years, the MCD7000, MCD7005, MCD7007, MCD7008, MCD7009 and MCD7010 should all match well with the C28 and MR78.

Here is a site with pictures of most McIntosh products, take a look for yourself to see if they are to your liking.

Parts for the earlier models aren't available.
I'd stay with a 7007 or later, the 7000 to 7008 all look similar.
The 7009 and 7010 look much like current production models.

The 7000,5 and 7 have faceplates that are half metal. Best match for them would be a 7270 amp. Your 28 and 77 have all glass so I think the 7009 or 7010 would match up best. As a plus, I think they sound better too.

It should be noted that the 7009 and 7010 are both wider face than the MR-78 and if stacked would look wierd! Better to get an end cap that is the same as the MR-78's and add it to the 7007 CD player. Cheers, Frank
