McIntosh Dealerships Gone in Lansing, MI.

The last remaining McIntosh Dealer in Lansing, MI., Contemporary Audio, a fine store, was stripped of it's McIntosh dealership leaving no McIntosh dealers in town. Lansing is a town of about 300,000 people, which should seemingly be enough to support a dealership. The same thing had happened to the Stereo Shoppe in town. The closest Mc Dealer is now the Detroit area, which is too far to frequent. I don't understand closing down access to the product. Websites are O.K., but there is nothing like talking to a real human and seeing (and hearing) the product in person.:thumbsdn::tears::no::nono:

Sorry to hear about losing your local shop.

A word of advice. Look elsewhere before heading to Almas in Royal Oak.

Yes I have been there. A couple of times to purchase Mc parts and repairs and a few times to purchase from them. Every single time I went there I ran out of the place.

I have meet used car salesman I like better. For that matter I like Lawyers and doctors more !

Well - Lansing, like many other Michigan towns have been hit hard due to the Car Industry layoffs.

That may be just one part of the reason, but consider this, here in Houston, the 4th largest city in US we do not have any Mac Audio outlets, you can buy McIntosh from HT stores but if its an audio component they will be more than happy to special order it for you at full retail and of course with no chance to hear or see the component since they are never available for in store audition.

Custom Audio/Video in Little Rock, AR quit doing McIntosh sometime last year. They told me the market there had slowly eroded thru the years for new equipment sales because customers just didn't want or need to upgrade their goodies. They were one of the oldest Mac dealers in the country from what I understood. Little Rock is about 300,000+ as well.

Probably in the 4 plus hour range. There are two other Mc dealers in the Detroit area but I have not visited any of them.

Too bad Pecar's is gone, they were a great McIntosh dealer and stocked a lot of old parts. The last one before that in the city itself was Stereoland. As Detroit rebuilds itself there will eventually be a McIntosh store in the city.

Windsor has a Mc dealer, just across the border from Detroit, and London does also, just down the 402, from Port Huron.

Amen brother, almas is the pits, service is quality but it takes weeks.
If ive ever been to the stereotypical snobby dealership its almas, they act as if their doing customers a favor.

The sound advantage in Rochester is the best in the state.

Picars is still there ain't they. Never made it in to Sound Advantage.

Last time Alams had one of my amps in their <cough> tech told me he hated tracking down intermittent problems.....Scuse me then WTF is he doing as an electrical tech. I used that term very loosely there !

Oh and he never did fix my amp. Only suggested throwing money at things that "may" have been the problem. Oh sure and I like to light my smokes with cold hard cash..

I have heard most of the Mcintosh line at the Hometheater Store. Sure, they sell many brands and not only Mcintosh but they have some high-end stuff there. I auditioned the LS360 there and bought them, the MC402 and bought it, the MC252 and bought two, and the MC501 of which I only have one. I have heard Mcintosh surround processors there, DVD players and pre-amps. I have been to a lot of Mcintosh dealers around the country and relative to most, the Hometheater Store has a lot of Mcintosh. If you negotiate, you can get a deal at most dealers, maybe not a lot but something.

Probably 10% off of MSRP. Seems to be the standard line at my Home Theater store here in Dallas.

I was first introduced to McIntosh equipment while at MSU in East Lansing. Shame no dealers are left. Any in Saginaw or Flint?

I bought an SX-950 at Alma's last year, at a fair price. Seemed like a decent place but, hey, I wasn't shoppin' for the same sort of gear as we're talking here.
