McIntosh MX115 tuner issue

Hello everyone, I'm having an issue with the tuner portion of the pre tuner. Aux, phono, etc all sound loud when the volume knob is at about 10 o'clock. Not the fm tuner. It is very low volume even past 12 o'clock.

Also, the tuning meter doesn't move at all as I turn the dial unless I have the select button pressed. The sound isn't clear unless the select button is pressed also.

I have a volt meter and a soldering iron. Just need a little direction on where to start looking. Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully the two problems are linked..
Thanks!!

Yea and I have a Xacto knife but I do not do surgery.

The back of the service manual will give you a list of what Mac considered the minimum equipment they expect you to have to service a tuner.

If you don't have it hire someone who does.....too easy to make in unrepairable if you do not know what you are doing and by making the kind of investment to do it correctly they most likely have the skill set to stay out of trouble.

I have an MX115 and when I first got it the tuner did not work well, it was noisy and made popping noises. I have some of the test equipment required but I did not feel comfortable working on the tuner section due to it having two IF adjustments and other some other adjustments I was not familiar with. From your description it sounds like something is wrong or way out of alignment in the normal selectivity path and when you push the button in the sound is better because it adds the second IF for higher selectivity. I wound up sending mine to Terry DeWick who fixed the issues and it came back in perfect alignment and sounding great.
