McIntosh QRP nirvana

We now have a new way of listening to and enjoying music!! It started with the purchase of a Sonos ZP in the last month or so. Streaming music from Pandora and FLAC files on the hard drive, listening is now done at low power and a change in C33 settings. With preamp Gain COMPRESSION set between 1.4 and 1.65, Level Match turned fully CW and LOUDNESS in the range of 10 to 1 o'clock, we're enjoying music at razor-sharp resolution over the full frequency range for hours at a time. It's just beautiful.. so relaxing and satisfying.

This is going to be good, and especially with hearing damage I cannot take cranking power into the room any more. It is physically painful and ironic. Even playing Blue-ray movies on the weekend is pushing it with sound levels.

The sensitivity of the Thiels and their tight bass extension down to 20 Hz really make the Low Power experience complete. Source material from Pandora such as `J.J. Cale radio´ doesn't require treble reduction due to the speakers being overly bright.

Comments welcome.. such as proceeding with an expert C33 re-cap and service job. :thmbsp:

p.s. QRP is radio talk for "low power."

Gregory,

Cute set up. I once used a C28's internal headphone amp to drive a set of Klipsch Corner Horns with excellent results. QRP lives!

Cheers,

LoL.. David is apparently a radio operator!! It's Ms Tweets who is the cute one, and we haven't disconnected from the 2205 to the C33 monitor amp yet since the Blue-ray videos on Sat and Sun night. :D

I also used the C33's internal headphone amp to drive Klipschorns while the 250 was being serviced. Worked great.

"What this country needs is a good 5-Watt amp." (PWK) Now that's QRP!
