WMP looked like this…

Now, MP looks like this…

Can’t figure out how to burn.

So I tried this…

Ok, so it’s been about a year since I last burned CDs and I am ready to get back at it.

I was burning in WMP, worked great. Now, I’ve been trying other things because I can’t find how to burn in the new MP.

I downloaded CDburnerXP. Tried the “send to” method above and I get the same problem.

The problem is that the CD plays back fine on the computer, but not my CD player. Before with the old WMP, the CDs worked perfectly on the computer and CD player.

Hmmm

Tried different recording speeds down to 4x, no change.

These are FLAC files by the way.

What is odd, is that when I put the CD into a CD player, it loads and displays that the disc has 1 track and the duration of the track is the total duration of all the tracks added up.

For instance, I just burned a CD with 3 tracks, totaling 10mins 23secs. Plays on the computer as intended but in the CD player it loads as "1 track 10.23" And when I hit play......it looks like it is playing in that the timer starts running and the disc is spinning, but no music, no signal to the preamp.

In order to play a recorded CD on a regular CD Player (vs computer) you need to "finalize" the disc. This writes the table of contents that CD players need. (the computer can play the files directly, CD players cannot)

Just put the disc back in the computer and right click on it in File Explorer. Choose "Close Session" and that will finalize the disc for playing on any device.

Doing this now.

I recall when burning the CDs there was a "burning" period of a few mins followed by a "finalizing" period of about 1 min. So I thought they were finalized.

"Close Session" isn't an option...

OK. Back to the drawing board.
(didn't realize you were running Windows-11)

The first question would be whether or not your CD player can read FLAC files. None of mine can. Some can play WAV files (also lossless), but not FLAC.
My burns from a year ago on this computer with the old WMP were FLAC. They play fine on the CD player that I am currently using.

Ok, so burned CD from a year ago that works perfectly in my CDP looks like this…

Burned CD from the other that won’t work, LOOKS LIKE THIS…

Got it figured out.

If I open “Media Player” as usual I get the new media player that does not allow burning.

If I search for “Windows Media Player Legacy” in the search bar at the bottom of the screen, that gets me to the older media player that allows burning with FLAC files and somehow converts them to the wmp files that my player will play.

Up and running!

This was frustrating though!

If you want the old Windows Media Player you have to reactivate it. I use Windows 11 23H2, the newest version. Take the particulars I explain in the follows with a grain of salt as I use the German version. But anyway:

Opern the "search" field. Type Features. There should surface "activating and deactivating Windows features" or such. Open it. There is a menu with radio buttons. One point with a submenu should read Media Features (Medienfeatures in my German version). Activate it, check, whether Windows Media Player in the submenu also is activated. Click OK. Vou may have to restart.

One thing is new: The name of the programme on my machine now is "Legacy - Windows Medienwiedergabe". But all the nice feature like synchronizing and burning are still there.

I regard the new Media Player as useless.

My older MAC computers have burner players built in, but the latest MAC I use either the MAC external burner, which isn't available anymore or a Pioneer 4K BLU-RAY player Burner. Its really easy on a MAC. The Pioneer is also compatible with PC, but I have no clue as to which operating system. I think I have gone thru three or 4 operating systems changes on the MAC with no operating issues with either burner.

There are better options than windows' built in things with which to burn CDs.
Just about any music player application including the free ones will do a better job of burning audio CD's than WMP of any vintage. I run Win 10 on several PC's and Win 11 on one. The applications listed below will work on Win 10 and Win11.
Music Bee
Media Monkey
Foobar
There are others both pay for and free that work just as well.

Of course I also use Exact Audio Copy for ripping and the trusty CDburnerXP for burning. The Windows Media Player is my choice of tool for listening to MP3 and synchronizing with storage devices or my phone.

The WMP has one advantage: It simply works. But my Windows on any of my computers is always nice, tidy and very clean ...

Mine's not. This 5 year old install of 10 drags ass loading usb drivers and occasionally hangs. Last time I cared to burn install discs, think I used some ancient cracked version of Nero Burning Rom. The things I used to do on optical discs in my youth....
