Mic inputs, who ever used them?

Purity of Essence
I have two receivers that have microphone inputs, a Pioneer SX 1250, and a Kenwood KR-9600. The Pioneer has stereo L/R inputs, the Kenwood is mono. These amps came out during my college years, although I could not afford either, but I never saw anyone using a microphone through their stereo. Did anyone ever really use these? Who needs a PA in their living room? Seems like unnecessary fluff to me, and those electronics could have been used for something more useful, maybe another phono input, of perhaps just leave it out and cut some costs.

The Pioneer SX-1010 also has mic inputs. I would have thought that it would have been used at parties where people would like to sing to the music. :dunno:
I know people who still enjoy doing this. :beerchug:

Also maybe for dubbing voice to reel and cassette at the same time? Two reel decks? Two cassette decks? Versatile home mixing station?

My SPEC-1 provides for not only a mike input but a mike mixer. We do karaoke regularly. But then my main rig provides for all kinds of fun, including a Wii.

Enjoy,
Rich P
