Micro System Referrals

Who are you people anyway?
My daughter, (aged 20), wants a Micro Stereo, but it must have a cassette deck. She thinks cassettes are "fun", and actually has a growing collection. So what is out there that sounds good, and has a reliable tape transport for it's age? It must have a small footprint, will be either sit on a small table, or on her dresser. I've been looking on Ebay, and their are numerous ones available, SONY, Panasonic, AWIA, etc. but I am not sure of their reliability. What's she using now? She has a Walkman style player with Koss Porta Pro headphones. And thanks for your help. BTW Boomboxes are a no go.

Denon UDRA-M10. 40 watts per channel and comes with optional tape and CD changer. I have a thing for mini systems and this is currently my favourite.

Aiwa was well known for its very small systems going back may years.

Have not followed its progress to the present though.

I found a Panasonic at the local GW for chump change. I could only power it up at the store, but got it home, and it works fine. I think my daughter will approve. What's strange, but true, the speakers are bi-amped.

I've got a couple of AIWA 22 series mini systems. You didn't mention if you're looking for new or vintage. These are vintage, brushed aluminum faced mini components, very high quality. There is a cassette deck available as part of the system, they will all need belts at this point but once that's done they're pretty reliable.

If your daughter has a Walkman, she can always run that through any system using a 2.5mm stereo to RCA interface cable.

This is the CMS-5, which includes the RE-5 receiver, CD-5 CD player, DR-5 cassette deck, SP-5 speakers and CMS-5 remote. It dates from the early 2000s, after the glory days of Nakamichi, but it still sounds excellent. The only issue I’ve had with mine was that the FM tuner was deaf as a post when I got it, but insulating the antenna jack from the metal chassis solved that - the tuner is actually pretty sensitive.

This one could be hard to find, but if you do it’s a great choice.

Needs to say Super H Bass. I have heard these systems tho, they’re definitely good for a small setup.

That's so funny!! Went to the trouble of bi-wiring, and used NO connectors.

But.....they sound great, right??
