I spotted a pair of Minimus 77's on Craigslist last week for 30$..
Felt the need for a Christmas project :)
The pair are in black and very minty condition except for of course the foams:(
As luck would have I reformed a pair last year and had bought 2 sets of foams in case I mucked the job.
I didn't so they had been sitting waiting for another pair.
Well the job went very well..
Now Just need to get some proper x overs..
Now I've two pair of 77's and one pair of
7's..
Lovely sound although a sub would be a nice addition. I wish they had made a matching sub for them..

nice...i found a pair of minimus 77 speakers at a thrift store for $10 last a few months ago.. surrounds rotted i ordered new ones from ebay for $5 and redid them.

i was pretty excited cause it was the first time doing something like that and they came out great... I gave them to my wife along with a SX-450 as a gift and she uses it in her office.

I actually want to get another pair for myself however. but my wife likes the SX-450 / minimus 77 combo so it has worked out pretty nice the sx-450 is in real nice shape.

This is my 2nd pair I've refoamed.
Check my profile for the thread..
Did you put a crossover in yours?
Made a big difference since they don't come with one.
I ended getting mine off eBay member
"Litekeys"
There maybe better ones you can build
But I was lazy..twice:)
I reccomend some rubber feet on the bottom. I use silicone draw bumpers from leevalleytools..

I have a pair of minimus7's with a Optimus pro 12 sub and it sounds great.
Found the sub at Salvation Army for 13 bucks. Refoamed it and it's an a
Great combo.

they dont come with crossovers???? wow...just stick a 100-150 uf capacitor on the woofer and tweeter

Nope no x over. Fleabay seller sells some that seem to work much better than stock...
There ain't no reason to mess with them, hell they were recognised as a good speaker long before the "tweekers" got their grubby hands on 'em. I've always got a pair "in stock", just in case a friend or relative needs a good pair of computer speakers, or for on the deck or patio, that is where they really shine.

There is a long history of "tweaking" them and it is worth it.
I just did a side by side test with one pair of 77's with crossovers and one pair With out . There is considerable difference with a cross over...

STOP using the ones

Without a x-over, you will surely blow up the tweeters. The x-over is mounted on the input cup. It should have a small coil and a cap. If they're gone, STOP using the speakers.

The 77's use the same x-over's as the 7's. The woofer runs full range, and the tweeter has a 12db (2nd order) x-over. Search for Zilch's 7 x-over mod. It will give you the original values and the modded values.

If you continue to use them as-is, you will kill the tweeters. Too much low frequency will cook the VC's.

No crossover? Not even a cap in series with the tweeter? Hell, guess I'd better take mine apart and look. Been using my 77s as computer speakers with a 30 wpc amplifier for 10-15 years. :scratch2:

(Still have the original foam surrounds too. I put some of the Simply Speakers PVA foam preservative on them years ago though, and it seems to have done the job preserving them.)

this has been interesting .... i just fixed the surrounds on the minimus 77 speakers i gave my wife

I'm wanting another set of these if i get some i may have to see about the crossover upgrade stuff...

or i might leave em these sound pretty good as they come stock and all i think.

All finished :) Cross overs took forever to show up.
The surrounds went in nicely, I used black shoe polish to recolour the the woofer cones as they were quite faded.
Just need one more tripath amp now..
