Hi guys, I'm looking for some help here. i've got a pair of early Mission 770's without tweeters, anybody know which tweeter was in there originally?? I'm pretty sure it was a Seas unit, but I will probably have to go with a replacement. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Awww c'mon guys, there must be someone out there who owns a pair with original tweeters.:wave:

I would say they were Seas brand tweeters- look at some of their tweeters from Madisound or PE and you might find it. The tweeters with the slot holes around the outer edge loks like a Seas type I have often seen.

It might be worth a shot to call Brian at Madisound (or one of the other techs).
They may have a cross-reference for the speaker model that will tell which drivers came with it.

Mine have Seas tweeters. I believe that the 770S which I have was a later version.

I know, I gotta fix that dust cap.

In case you cant read the label, it says:

1" Dome H253 FF
6 OHM 42/28
MADE IN NORWAY

My Mission 700-2's have Seas tweets. Model 19tnf, 8 ohm. Vifa makes good copies of these Seas drivers and they're a lot cheaper. Take a look on Parts Express. I actually prefer the Vifa version of the 19tfn in my ESM-3's. Just an idea. Scott

You are looking for a pair of seas H211 tweeters which were used in the original 770 (mk1 & mk2). You will also find this tweeter in the original 710,720 and 730 models ( original late 70's wooden baffle )
The seas H253 uses the same chassis and should fit the hole but has a different spec.

Another excellent tweeter is the Morel MD30- I have used it with great success on several designs. Even the MD29 is a remarkable tweeter as well!

Missio 770 Mk1 & mk2

A guide to help you identify the difference between the two White baffled 770 models,

1)The mk1 has the tweeter mounted lower on the baffle and the reflex port is smaller.

2)The mk2 bass driver was designed with a larger voice coil and magnet assembly which raised the power handling and when viewed from the front the yellow diaphragm is the size of the driver, also the polypropylene driver dust cap is larger on the mk2

3)The cable connection panel on the bottom of the mk1 has recessed 4mm sockets and a 2pin din socket in the middle and fuse holder mounted at an angle.
The mk2 has red and black posts to accept 4mm plugs and bare wire cables and also the speaker specs printed on the panel.

I use the Mk1/Mk2 ref as a guide however I don't remember Mission ever calling the uprated version a mk2, it was never listed as such in their literature and the 770S and freedom models were different speakers both visually and in the components used

Thanks for all the help. Yes they are the Mk1, do you happen to know if there is a replacement for the Seas H211, that has identical specs?

The H253 uses the same chassis as the H211 however I don't know how close they are with regards to spec. It's worth cheching with Seas via email first

The nearest I can find locally to you are these

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Pair-SEAS-1-Dome...pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item1c18ba61aa

They are different in that the coil wires are fed from the front and you'd have to check the dimensions (both magnet and front plate) but at least they are local if they fit.
I may have some Seas tweeters in storage however I think the shipping alone would make the price prohibitive, so best look out for any original Mission 710/720 or 730 speakers with the wooden front baffle as these all used the seas tweeter

I'm refurbishing a pair of 770's (basket grommets gone, port tube crushed and generally tatty) and upgrading the capacitors and ferrofluid-dried-out tweeters while I'm at it. Mine have a recessed wooden plate on the floor which is fixed with captive nuts screwed into from the outside. There's a typical white-on-black Mission sticky-back data label on the outside of the wooden plate, and metal knurled nuts as binding posts - are these early Mk1's?

I would say SEAS, I have an early pair of 720 with Seas tweeters. may part them out at some point as I have too many speakers;)

A little late, but thank you for posting this. I have the MK2 version, since mine have the red/black banana plugs at the bottom of the speakers. That said, I'm looking for the original stands. Does anyone know of a good replacement? Also, what year were these MK2s made?

TIA....JP

The best stands are the linn. I allways use them on all my stand mounts.
