Hello all.
I picked up a bottle of Monster's 'Screen Clean' product to clean, what else?, my various lcd screens, etc. as well as my glasses. Great cleaner. No alcohol - leaves my glasses cleaner than clean. So... I tried it on an LP. And it worked. I think. Sure left the surface shiny - grooves looked clean, too.
So does anybody else have experience with this stuff vis a vis LP cleaning?
At 20 bucks a bottle it ain't cheap, exactly, but compared to 'dedicated' vinyl cleaners it's a relative bargain.
The only thing is I have no idea what the solution consists of, and whether it might do long term damage to my vinyl.

Check AK for DIY record cleaning fluids if your on a very tight budget, the Monster screen cleaning fluid at $20 isn't a bargain or designed for cleaning records. Also you could get a gallon of Phoenix record cleaning fluid for around $30 that was formulated to clean records. By the looks of your audio equipment it's all quite decent to say the least and I'd suggest you consider commercial record cleaning fluids and a RCM from reputable mfgs like AIVS/VPI/Nitty Gritty.
 
I have a VPI rcm and I currently use their fluid concentrate. I am not particularly impressed with it - far too 'sudsy' for my liking, even with additional surfactant added. What impressed me with the Monster liquid is how fast it dried and just how clean the record surface became. And this was using a soft cloth only. The grooves also looked very clean under a scope. I would probably dilute the mixture for use on the VPI, though, to get a little more bang for the buck.
 
I don't think one can find a better cleaner than the Spin-Clean fluid. A 32 oz. bottle lasts months (it's a concentrate) and it's even safe on 78s (ie: no alcohol).

Since you mention you use it to clean your glasses I thought I'd put in my two cents. We both know that cleaning glasses is a form of acid test for the effectiveness of a cleaner, not only for it's ability to clean quickly and thoroughly, but to do so without leaving any residue that can leave streaks....this is particularly important with mineral coated lenses.

Several months ago there was a thread posted here extolling the virtues of cleaning vinyl with Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner. Being curious myself, I went out and bought a spray pump bottle and tried it myself. I didn't exprience the amazing results claimed by the OP, but I did notice it did a sparkling job on my glasses. The product label claims it doesn't scratch - which I can attest to. The surfactant used is amazingly effective at dissolving facial oils and rinsing off completely, with little or no rubbing.

For cleaning glasses, it's the best thing I've ever come across. One of these days I'll get around to cleaning the tub with it, too.
