Moscode Owners Out There?

If any of you have any experience with the 300 or 600 series Moscode Amps please chime in. I just picked one of these up and although it's a hybrid......it's a damn sweet sounding amp!

Currently I'm looking for some replacement tubes as it has cheapo russsians in it. I have a whole bunch of miscellaneous tubes laying around and just as I was about to buy some 6DJ8's......I discovered I had a pair of West German RCA's that are 7308's!

Now I'm on the prowl for 6bk7 replacements and see that the 7308's could be replacements. Any info on this is appreciated.

I also had some questions on general operation as well as trying to locate a schematic for this.

I owned the Moscode 600 a while ago and recapped it...

I quite liked the sound, the proverbial "iron fist in a velvet glove". It certainly didn't lack for power. I think it was the type of amp that would have been a perfect fit for particular speakers, i.e. those that required an amp with gobs of power and a slightly softened tonal balance. There are plenty of times I wish I had it back!
 
Do you remember if it took longer than normal for the relay to engage on start-up? Mine seems to take about a full minute and one theory I have on this is that it waits for the tubes to completely warm up before it will let you have at it.

My 300 was OK. I brought it used and broken, and fixed it up and sold it - like I do a lot of gear. I seem to remember that the power transformer was huge & noisy, and I think I added some mechanical dampening.

A cynic once said, a hybrid amp like this has the advantages AND disadvantages of both tubes and MOSFETS . . .

I heard one of those recently at a friends shop. I liked it too. I think the older models are fairly affordable on the used market.

It was slow to engage the relay and I do believe it was designed this way to prevent cathode stripping.
 
I was playing with this again with some better tubes in it. It still takes 1 minute, 40 seconds to engage! I kid you not! Anyone else experience this?
 
I have had a 300 since the mid-late 1980 when I bought it as a ''kit''. all that was required was lots of mechanical assembly and a little soldering. Put it together in a night, worked great out of the gate and have used it off and on since then. Looked into updating amps and then researched upgrades with George Kaye and ended up doing pretty much the whole upgrade plan. WOW, really happy I did. Worked with George in getting the right tube lineup in there and at this point I really can't afford what's going to kick it's butt! Very happy with this decision ( not always the case in this hobby, right??)
