I hesitate to post this because of how EV threads inevitably go, but its just too darned weird to not share.

Chevy Corvette EV: We Found a Secret Prototype Made by Motorola in the 1990s (thedrive.com)

I honestly had no idea Motorola Automotive ever existed or that they had done what appears to be fairly serious engineering work on an EV 2 decades back. Would be very cool to find out the rest of the story on this thing, even if it never moves under it's own power again.

What a hoot. Darned shame the car is so closeted!

Based on the article, they think the batteries are ruined. That and the charging port is missing. Doesn't sound good.

I am sure they used lead batteries back then but the wiring + charging system (if any) could be an electrical nightmare.
Motorola Automotive Products division used to be based in Schaumburg, IL, (a town we used to live in) and they were a huge operation.

having a lot of the original engineering docs has to be a massive help. Would certainly take a lot of time to piece through them and figure out whats going on, but with the original docs its probably a lot more possible to fix than just flyiing totally blind.

and yeah probably just lead-acid, which probably makes it easier to re-battery or repair. Sounds like no on-board charging though so some work would have to be done in order to figure out what the correct supply voltage is.
