I just saw the film Maria, on Netflix, about the opera singer Maria Callas. There was a scene (maybe a couple of them) with Callas in her home, the year that she died, 1977 listening to music on what looked to be a pretty nice system. It had a JVC turntable and more importantly, a large integrated amp (not sure of the brand). The amp had a LED display though and I have wonder if such a thing was even available in '77? It's more likely to me that she had bought the system some time before, which would make the LED tech even less plausible...

Thoughts?

I haven't seen the movie, but if you mean an LED digital display, then no, it's probably not accurate. There were LEDs in some components starting in the mid 1970s for things like peak indicators, and digital LED displays showed up in tuners in the late 70s (I believe the first was the famous Sherwood Micro CPU 100 in 1977). Before then, any digital displays (and they were rare) would probably have had Numitrons or Nixies, and I'm not aware of any amps that had them.

Actually, I believe VFDs showed up on components before LED digital displays finally took over. Pioneer's Fluoroscan is one well known example.

1979-1980 according to HFE. But that is what is in the picture.

Leave it to the audio nerds of vintage to find it and notice it might be out of time.
Exactly! This couldn't have been "77... and even if that model came out that year, it seems more likely that it would have been bought earlier.
