Dude, you missed my /s after the pic! No, that didn't happen in the film. What it did look like was one very pissed off bear on a rampage. Might be the best scene in the entire film, certainly the most memorable. I think I now have an inkling as to what a bear attack actually looks like.

In agreement on Dicaprio, he's still trying to atone for the mess production made during the filming of The Beach. For me it's Blood Diamond. I think he really nailed that role. Unfortunately for Blood Diamond though it's saddled with yet another wooden, flat, lifeless performance from Jennifer Connelly. I digress...

Clearly the producers bought into Alejandro Inarritu's vision for The Revenant and the fact that it did win both Best Director & Best Actor "proves" their good judgement. Or, they know how to play the Awards game better as clearly I don't. I just did not see directing nor performance chops that merited the gushing hype surrounding this film. If anything it reminds me of Heaven's Gate from Cimino where historical prop/scene accuracy pushed any compelling story off to the side.

Final recommendation for The Revenant: Rewatch Jeremiah Johnson if you are looking for something more than an HD Nature special.
 
Agreed, Leo was amazing in Blood Diamond.

One of my earliest memories was reading one of those drama in real life stories in readers digest about a bear attack, complete with artist rendering.

35 years later, I still see that image. I'm guessing a piss ed off bear attack would be about the worst thing imaginable

Funny how stuff stays with you like that. I grew up on the west coast. In the early 70s there was a horrific grizzly attack on 3 college girl campers. I want to say Yellowstone but it could have been the Tetons, I just don't recall. The paper printed the story in graphic detail which I know now was rare then. Basically the bear tore their tent open then maimed each one in succession and none were able to get up & run away. Then over the next few hours it kept returning to bite, chew, and eat them. Only one lived out of the 3. I must have been 10-11 when I read it and I had nightmares afterwards for weeks. Magnificent though they may be, whenever I see this pic I think that it's a good start (NSFL) -

LOL.

I question the mind of who saw and reported as rape that scene.

Maybe they used the word rape as allusion to the violence of it. Nah....probably not that deep, just sensationalist headline. :)
 
First off, in those conditions and after being buried in a hole after all the rough sewing up of all the gashes, he would have
a- froze to death
b- died of fevers and infection or pneumonia

So that alone makes the whole of the movie a little unbelievable. I like Leo all the way from Gilbert Grape and the Basketball Diaries to Catch Me if You Can and beyond.

My biggest complaint about this movie and many made in the last 2 years, is that they are 30 minutes too long. Take Dances with Wolves or any other Kostner movie. There is XX minutes of movie along with 130 minutes of staring at Kevin. This was the same except we got to watch and hear Leo Grunt and Groan for 50 minutes or so which added the extra useless 30 minutes to the movie.

Overall, I liked it.
