It truly must be nice. It seems every other station here plays "pop-country" nonsense. We have a couple of "oldies" stations for country music, but I have a hard time defining Tim McGraw as an oldie. It's sad to say, but there's an "easy" station that plays more classic country than any of the country stations put together.
I commend your courage to make the pedo comparison...I think its unfortunately the most referenced of the philes these days and it does seem to come to mind when using the word audiophile.

As this thread shows, there are different ways of understanding the term audiophile. In my experience, that is, at the shops and hifi clubs I've hung out at over the years, an audiophile is a music lover who goes to the expense of using high-end equipment to reproduce the music. My first foray into separate components was in the 1970's with brands like BIC, Pioneer, and EPI--not audiophile-grade equipment, but very enjoyable, nonetheless. In the 1980's, I upgraded to components from Linn and Naim, which some would consider high-end gear. About a decade ago, I went a different direction with components from Well Tempered, Audio by Van Alstine, and Vandersteen, also gear considered audiophile-worthy by some. Currently, I'm getting all the musical pleasure I crave with a more humble Rega RP3, the same Audio by Van Alstine amplification, and low-end Bose speakers--not an audiophile system in the sense I've understood it, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Whatever the make-up of the system, love of music has been the reason for having any kind of sound system at all.
