Musical memories from the early 1970's.

G'day all, at the moment I'm playing an old Australian compilation pop record from the very early 1970's (1970-1971 mainly).

It's a rather pleasant but slightly spooky experience. I was a child of about seven or eight at that time yet I remember all these pop songs from that time period very well.

It was a very different world back then, yet the memories are somewhat comforting. Regards, Felix aka catman.

Felix, you of all people, w/yr "Different" way of seeing things may understand this-More than most anyone else...Always felt 1970-71 was an "Odd" time-it wasn't QUITE the Seventies yet, but it wasn't the Sixties anymore, either...Maybe I feel/felt that way 'cause I turned 13 in '70, not quite an adult, but not a kid anymore, either...Here in the States, we had quite a few "Different" pop songs then, too....Lotsa "One Hit Wonders", more so seemingly than other years.

G'day mate, it was quite a 'transitory' time between the 1960s and 1970's. At least my school teachers still wore very short dresses which was still 'in fashion' at that time. Regards, Felix aka catman.

I was 9 years old in 1970. Everyone listened to AM radio. That definitely was the "One Hit Wonder" years. There was so much more music back then. I listen to mostly music from the '60s & 70's. It takes me back to a better time. Like the song says "Those Wore The Days My Friend, I thought They Never End".:D

Felix, you just keep spinning that old (but good) comforting music.:thmbsp:

Which one is you?

G'day all, I'm the strange little boy just to the right of the teacher. Yes I wonder whatever happened to Miss. Finnerty? :scratch2: Regards, Felix aka catman.

Most of my music memories of the mid 70's take place in the back seat of my 64 Ford Galaxie....

'71, IIRC, there was a furious debate going on over Miniskirts, Midiskirts, & Maxiskirts...I remember the girls in my elementary school then still couldn't wear pants to school... There were a couple of women in my church who wore "Pantsuits" right around then, instead of dresses, & it was considered SCANDALOUS...I can't remember the last time I saw a woman in a dress...Even skirts are pretty rare nowadays..

G'day mate, yes this is getting a bit off topic but I lament the passing of the mini skirt, yet back then women felt liberated by the mini, but now it's totally opposite. We live in a strange society. Yes! Regards, Felix aka catman.

Wow! Your teacher was HOT!

I would have had a hard time concentrating. Most of my teachers before high school wore habits.

G'day mate, yes she was gorgeous. Our school 'secretary' (as they were called then) was even hotter. Unfortunately I was too young to truly 'appreciate' their awesome physical beauty. To me they were just 'nice ladies'.

Coming from a conservative family I recall being slightly shocked by the sight of all those beautiful uncovered legs! Hey, that was then! Regards, Felix aka catman.

Like I said, I was 13 in '70, so I was just beginning to think that MAYBE, just MAYBE, girls might be useful for other things besides throwin' rocks at...There was one in particular, Melissa, she was blonde, tall, GORGEOUS-In my eyes, anyhoo, & her daddy owned/ran the bank in town. She's now married & lives in Taos, New Mexico, her dad died a good 10 yrs ago, but her mama is still alive. Need to go see her mom sometime, most of the parents of us 1970 13 yr olds are gone now...Every time I think of Melissa, "I Think I Love You" or "Brand New Key" starts playin' in my noggin...Good Times !

I started High School in 1970. For me it was kind of bitter sweet with the breakup of The Beatles and the start of their solo efforts. ATMP and POB being excellent debut LPs.

The death of Hendrix was a real downer and came as quite a shock. That said....some outstanding Rock music was being made by some great artists. I was infatuated with listening to early FM underground radio stations in my area by this time. While AM was only listened to for sports or during drives in the family car.

G'day mate, speaking of Hendrix, I'm presently listening to the JHE album Axis: Bold As Love from 1967 yet music seems to have stepped back somewhat in 1970, compared to the excitement of the late 1960's. The sociologists can no doubt comment on this . :D Regards, Felix aka catman.

AM radio in the early 70's were into playing a lot of bubblegum pop at the time. However the early days of FM Rock stations were incredible and played some great album cuts. Something not really happening in this day and age.

Sounds like that LP you own is a pop hits comp featuring that genre of music, aimed at the kiddies. In 1970 some great AOR was played on US FM stations at that time.

I went to my first concert in '71 - Grand Funk with Humble Pie opening. Second concert a month later was even better - Jethro Tull

It was a great time for FM. I grew up north of NYC listening to Allison Steele The Night Bird :thmbsp:

G'day all, I must be on a bit of a 70's thing at the moment as right now a Simon and Garfunkel compilation is on the turntable playing and I'm really getting into it, even crying occasionally. Great music. Regards, Felix aka catman.

I hear you. I get in certain nostalgia moods every so often. Lately the 70s have been sneaking up on me more and more often. In the 80s I hated the 70s. But today there is a certain "comfort" about the 70s. Especially the music and to a lesser extent the TV shows. Personally, the 70s were rough for me - a certain age and awkwardness. But if I could I would give everything to go back and relive those years. Cheers.
