My A-9 Amp

Just got this yesterday--been looking for one for sometime now. From the not so popular "Communication Series" of the early 80s. This one has some minor cosmetic damage, nothing horrible. Showed up in good shape, and suprisingly clean under the hood. I downloaded the service manual and made adjustments. A crisp, clear and clean sounding amp. I also own an A-8 amp, along with some other components from this line (SG-9 equalizer, SR-9 reverb, RG-9 range expander, DT-9 timer, and the PL-7 turntable). This photo is from the auction I got it from ($67.99 plus shipping). I'll take some photos of my own when I get everything arranged...........

this whole model series was better than I expected. The CT8 tape deck is a very nice piece as well.

Shhhh! :nono:

Don't type that too loud, or you'll let out the secret about these bad reputation components. Wouldn't want the prices to get too outlandish, would you?

Just located and purchased this F-9 tuner to add to my rack............ when will it end! Pictures of the completed system to come soon. This is the auction photo....

Are either of the two hinges broken off the flip down door for this tuner? Because of the plastic used, that is one of the common cosmetic issues I have seen with this tuner. I have a few with that problem. Otherwise, they are a very good performing tuner, that is highly regarded.

Good luck with your new "disease".

The main reason I Sold my A-9 was I had a hard time locating the F-9 to match it,
Good going !

............ when will it end!

:wtf:

I never liked the looks (or the build quality) of this vintage (my neighbor has boxes of this vintage (A-9, A-8, A-7, F-9, etc..etc....cassette players, equalizers) but I always thought they sounded just fine. What did you have to give for the F-9?

Buy It Now for $74.99 plus shipping (still under $100). This was the first one i've seen pop up in a while.

I have the baby brother A-5 as the base of my bedroom system, I'd love to get the larger examples of this series, they are pretty good units.

The A-9 is unlike any of the other pieces in this line of equipment. Look under the hood and you'll see why.

My dad has a Pioneer SX-9. Although not the sexiest piece of equipment, it was a TOTL model and is cool in its own right.

My dad has a Pioneer SX-9. Although not the sexiest piece of equipment, it was a TOTL model and is cool in its own right.

That's right, the A-9 has the huge torodial transformer, and a double set of shark fin heat sinks. You can easily blow out a testicle trying to move this beast. I've attached a video I did a few months ago--I'll do another when the F-9 gets here. Right now I've got the A-9 and the A-8 interconnected with each having they're own speakers (A-9 with Klipsch KSB 3.1s and the A-8 with the Avid model 100s)........

Roger that, excluding your comment about the looks. To each his own I say. If my memory serves me correctly, the SX-9 has the torodial transformer also. But, the SX-8 is also pretty impressive in it's own right too. It was the TOTL in the USA, while the SX-9 was TOTL outside the US.
