My dog likes the sweet spot

This is my little guy Champ listening to some late night jazz.

Typically he timeshares between me & wifey, so he doesn’t usually stick around too long.

But he did provide some amusement listening to music ping pong between channels when I was playing Grace Jones once. His head going back & forth was pretty funny…

Shaggy doesn't worry about the sweet spot normally. He does have preferences but is unable to tell me what they are. I only know when he looks at me gets up and walks into another room if I play something he doesn't care for. Here he listens to Echoes by Pink Floyd. He does seem to prefer early Floyd.

My Dachshund does not like any music at all. However my Foxterrier I had loved The Beatles. Each time I started a Beatles - record it came up (my room was on the 3rd floor) and sat down exactly in the sweet box facing the loudspeakers. And obviously listened. One time I changed the record and played "Africa" from Toto. The little guy made an escape at once and got seriously sick at the first step of the stairs ...

My dogs will lay directly in front of the speakers, even at higher levels. I think they like the bass. :dunno:

What goes on in those little brains, anyway?
A lot more than people think/know.

We were at the dog park a couple weeks ago and one of the regulars, a husky, got her head stuck in the entrance gate and started crying loudly. All of the dogs went over to check out the situation and mulled around her barking their heads off. It sounded like a dog fight.

My dog, Dani, went over, checked out the situation, and went to fetch the dog's owner who had already started to walk in that direction from the other side of the park. She has got to be among the smartest dogs at the park.

To stay cool, she will purposely lay in my shadow aligning her body to take best advantage of it and moving with it. And when asphalt is hot, she will move to the concrete gutter, then to the unpaved surfaces, accordingly.

Ha. Champ does the same thing in hot weather (smarter than most folks in near record breaking temperatures).

Me and the mutt Listening to Pink Floyd Shine On You Crazy Diamond. This is how she sits whenever I put on the I Wish You Were Here album, she especially likes side A. She will come out of another room to come join me if she hears me playing it. Sorry for the weird lighting, had to use a flash as I prefer to listen in the dark. Couldn't get the speakers in the picture due to being 6ft tall electrostats, they have a narrow dispersion, so the couch is the sweet spot

We too, have often wondered what out cat and dog are thinking. In our case, Boo, our cat, very often chooses to lounge (facing the speakers) when we play jazz. The arm of the sofa, where he lays, is only a foot from the center of the speaker placement and two feet more into the near-field than my sweet-spot. Are our companions enjoying our human vibes or their own reverie?
