Hi All, I just won on e-bay, a full Onkyo Hi-Fi system, all matching, circa 1982, model being, P_33 series, ie, PL 33, PC 33 ect, The turntable itself is a PL 33 Linear Tracker, my first, can't wait to pick it all up, and yes, it is all fully functioning, what'dya think ? Hi, Thanks Balifly, I have googled this whole system, no info to speak of, one forum mentions that they are quite rare, maybe, I'am very keen and curious to play this system, I have a Technics SL 1400, so, again, curious to hear and feel the differences between them, being that the Onkyo is a linear tracker, and I've never heard one as yet. I just joined the LT club a few weeks ago and I have to say I am quite pleased. Be sure to post some pics when you get it!

Onkyo sometimes used different sets of model numbers for Japan, Europe and North America.

It looks like quite a good one, so you did well.

Onkyo weren’t that well known back in those days, and they didn’t sell as many as Pioneer, Sony or Technics. So it’s sometimes one of the harder brands to find info on, particularly from users. It may have been made for them by an OEM like CEC or Mitsubishi, who both made plenty of linear trackers and OEM turntables, but I can’t confirm that.

Onkyo were big on good quality hi-fi rack systems, though – one of the largest high end department stores in Australia (Myer) used to sell them exclusively here, so I would occasionally have a look at some nice Onkyo systems when I was walking through Myers at lunchtime in the 1980’s! I can’t ever recall seeing a linear tracker, but I usually was in a hurry due to a relatively short lunchtime, so couldn't look at everything.:sigh:

One of the things which hi-fi reviewers regularly remarked on with many linear trackers was very good stereo separation (in comparison to conventional turntables), and some of the larger hi-fi brands like JVC advertised that their linear trackers gave better stereo separation.:music: They theoretically have very low tracking error when done well, far smaller than the maximum on even very long pivoting tonearms.
 
Hi, I also live in Australia, Central Vic, just outside Castlemaine, The Hot Rod capital, yes, I agree with everything you say, really looking forward to playing with it, I will post pics as well, once I get my hands on the system, next week, it consists of TT PL-33, Speakers PS-45, Amp PA-33, Receiver PT-33, Equalizer PE-33, Cassette PC-33, all set in the original rack with manuals.
