Recycled toy cars
.....was in 'introductions', so this is my second.
Hello, everybody! Great forum you have here!
I picked up a Pioneer A-9 last year, in England. Same source as my Leak Stereo 70 - the local dump!
The Leak is working now, but I have to sort out the A-9.....the lights come on, and correspond to whatever buttons are pressed. Unfortunately, and this is the main thing, there is no sound whatsoever. Zilch! Not even a hum, or a hiss.
I went inside, and saw that work has been done to the bank of output transistors on one channel.....each transistor has some of that white 'good contact' paste around it, and the soldering is obviously, although good looking, not the manufacturer's work.
Does anybody know what the chances are of getting this amp up and running, please? Are parts available? The huge toroidal power supply.....is that available if necessary, and at what cost - an arm and a leg, or just the one leg and three fingers???
I only paid ten British pounds for it, so a budget is available. It would be nice to be able to hear it one day. I have tried to find out what it's worth on the market these days.... I will now go to a thread somewhere here regarding this.
