My first Sub-woofer

Ok ,love my new B&W 608 sub and its my first sub so cut me some slack. I made a platform for it and added an isolation matt under it to isolate everything from the floor and give it some height so sound is not lost in the carpet. NOW the biggy, I also topped the sub with a 1/4 inch steel plate with neoprene base for further dampening. Sounds good to me. Is this proper isolation/dampening. Thoughts?IMG_0624.JPG

I have put down firing subs on isolating platforms because I like the sound better that way. I have two front firing subs that are on feet but I don't know if it makes much of a difference but they came that way. But if it sounds good to you go for it. There are no rules except for what sounds good to you.

Why not? Absolutely nothing wrong with trying to eek out some better performance.
With just spikes the sound was going into the carpet. Also with the shaking this dynamo does the top plate dampens cabinet resonance for crisper sound. Im surprised no one has seen this before.

My Infinity sub doesn't need any further "damping", but I can see the advantage with lesser braced subs.

Using two subs would allow driving each sub a bit easier, less cabinet structure vibrations. Plus they could double as stands stacking the mains on top acting similar to placing your metal plate on top. This eliminates the need of stands and helps integrate the subs with the mains.

With just spikes my carpet was seriously vibrating a foot away from the speaker so a lot of energy is dissipated into carpet.

My question is why did you feel you need to do all this?
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to come across snarky. I assume sub, and speaker manufacturers spend a lot of time testing and developing their speakers and subs, cab designs etc... Your mods make total sense, but why wouldn't the manufacturer have done the same I wonder?
Your mods look great and improved the sound, ultimately that's what matters!

MFG do make platforms for towers and no one makes top isolaters but me.

Ya, it's kinda old, 28yrs to be exact. Only 2 large in 1991, servo subs aren't cheap lol. Even when rattling your teeth you can't feel anything on the outside, but it was Arnie Nudell's no holds barred subwoofer.

It has this nifty external control unit that makes integration easier. Not seen are the dip switches on the back for setting the high pass filter if desired.

This new B&W has all the switches and low pass frequency goodies. Pretty nice for a small sub
Variable high pass filter? Not many subs have this feature. Variable phase is another feature many don't include, but without it proper integration is much more difficult. If your sub has either of these features its already ahead of the game.

Yes in deed it is a hi-tech sub after all its Bowers & Wilkens latest.
