My new DIY bass cab

Here's my new fEARful 15/6 - check out plans here - http://greenboy.us/fEARful/. It's just in test phase here, making sure everything works before I make it all pretty. I'm thinking vintage Fender style tweed, strap handles, and baffle stained to match my Squier J bass.

It uses Eminence 3015LF and 18Sound 6NM410 drivers. Incredible output and range. I'm done looking for bass cabs now. That's a Carvin BX1500 amp on top, 900W bridged into 8 ohms, and 12AX7 preamp tube.

Now I'm a crappy bassist with a nice rig.

Nice cabinet. Those eminence speakers really sound nice. I just got into their stuff when I loaded the 1954 5D8 Tweed Twin I made with a pair of their "Swamp Thang" 12" speakers. I presently use a vintage Kustom 200 2 x 15" cabinet that still has it's original Altec 15" speakers in it for bass. I power it with a push pull parallel amp of my own design using two 12AX7's in the preamp, a 6SN7 phase splitter and a pair of EL34's in parallel with a pair of KT66's. The rig has amazing, smooth tone when I use it with my Precision bass or my Ibanez fretless.
I like that cabinet of yours since it has that smaller speaker too. it extends the high frequency range so that harmonics sound through loud and clear.
I really like the tween on that cabinet. Really cool. You did a really nice job with that. Is that basically a Thiele design? Looks like the old Electrovoice Thiele type cabinets I used to use int he 80's. Those things really perform great for bass. Lot's of sound in a reasonably small package. Anyway, nice work and I'm glad to see another bass player into building his own stuff.

How does it sound? I built myself a cabinet using a 15" JBL years ago, smaller port than yours, no tweeter, either. It had great bottom, but was a bit on the huge side.

It's a greenboy fEARful, check out the link in the OP to see the plans. There is an optional horn tweeter, but I figured the 18sound mid would give me more than enough top end. I was right, it really sings in the higher frequencies.

I'm planning on adding a shellac finish and some chrome corners tomorrow. Got some scraps to practice on to see what I like.

It's pretty much incredible, I'd call it hi-fi for bass. Flat response, and highly sensitive to EQ. It will soak up every bit of the 900W I'm giving it. The low end is prodigious in drop D tuning. These 3015LF drivers have high xmax, and the fEARful takes perfect advantage of it. Thermal and excursion limits are very close.

Done. That's an amber shellac finish on the tweed. Chrome corners and grilles installed as well.
