I purchased an SAE 3000 preamp in nov 1980, along with a pair of infinity speakers. The preamp was $225 new. In December I returned the infinity speakers, they were very power hungry. Used that money and purchased an SAE 2200 amp for $405. I still use them today. I purchased in 1981 my Dual 506 turntable. At some point I purchased a rack mount cabinet and a Nikko EQ1 equalizer from a friend.
I also purchased used an Akai GXC730D cassette deck. Bought new, Onkyo T25 tuner.
I also bought a pair of JBL L166 horizon speakers. Later I got my second pair of L166s.
About a year ago I picked up a pioneer spec 2 amp. The spec amp I got off EBay for $430 need repair $240 in repairs.
Today I still have this entire system. The preamp drives both amps. The spec amp drives 1 pair of JBLs and the SAE drives the other 2!!!

Cool system! I have the 2200 as well. It is not in use now but no plans to part with it. Cheers
 
Excellent!! I started craving more power. I was looking for a 2400 or 2600 a while back then got a deal on the spec 2.
Maybe my hearing is going away being 50+
