My "temp" Pre-amp solution

Hey Cats,
Back with a follow up of my mono block project. I'm on the hunt for that "just right" which is more of a daunting task than anticipated so because I'm impatient and can't wait to get cooking with my custom mono blocks I had built for me I was informed of this product. They're mic tube pre-amps which can be also used and audio pre's as well. I talked to the Cat at the music shop and he advised on what I should try. Well this is what I brought home a pair or ART tube pre's, one for each mono block and I was surprised by the result, these things are uber quite and that warmth of the tube is a nice effect. These little rigs have excellent adjustability, phase reverse, 2 mode gain control. Balanced XLR and 1/4" connectivity. The upside is that I have individual volume control of each amp to balance my source, the downside is that I have individual control of each amp to balance my source. Yeah I know sounds goofy but having a single balance control is preferred, I'll get that when I find that "just right" pre-amp but for now these are doing a great job so far. I have these running into my tape out jacks on my British Fidelity which "passively" provides my source choices, I only power the BF up when I want to spin vinyl which is most of the time. Check em out and let me what you think about my little experiment I have going.
Peace,
Preston

Preston,
How much did those "preamp" modules cost? It seems to me that if the sound is Ok, then all you need is to gang the volume/gain pots together and you're home.

Hi Terry,
I have $130 CAD into them. The volume pot idea is being bounced around my fellow stereo Buds at this time. There may be a build project for one for giggles, there's lots of parts amongst us all. Alps or Noble would be good for the project I'm thinking.
Peace,
Preston

Preston,
You might see if you can find some small cogged pulley (slot car/hobby shop) that fits a (?) 1/4 inch shaft and use three of them. One on each unit and a third one as the main control with a cogged belt connecting all of them.
As I'm a real cheap guy I'd probably stretch a rubber band around both knobs and see if that would work, although maybe your buddies are onto a better solution.:scratch2:

Best Regards,
TerryO

Hi Terry,
These are only temporary for now, although the resulting sound was very surprising to us all that had a listen. The plan is to get a nice pre-amp.
Peace,
Preston
