My Ubangi Journey: RCA-MI-9462

Sure, but I must admit that they were a bit of a disappointment to me. That said, being very early JBL 130a is great, but the perfect dream would have of been RCA MI-9449's

It's not well known but RCA documentation suggests that at least a few of these cabinets were factory fitted with those JBLs and others with Jensens. The first few years of the 1950's was wartime and some "things" and materials were in short supply at times. Those woofs may very well have been what was originally supplied.

The early 130a's were just before the crazy expensive JBL 150-4's -16's and 32's as used in the Hartsfield Horn cabs and the Big Jbl horn theater cabs.
4560 double scoops i believe were their #'s
It all depends on your plans for the RCA cabs.
Do you have a big enough room, and the worlds best Wife to enjoy them???
I think bowtie427ss would agree that a few Fresh Altec 515b's should be a Nice Upgrade for the Ubangi's

Thank you for the information. I will be meeting with the owner this weekend and will ask if he knows, they were his dad's.

The plan is to bring in at least two. Personally, I'm not into upgrading them per se, but I would like to bring them back to RCA's original intent.

As for the wife being the "world's best" I think so, and after all it was her suggestion to get the original drivers for them.

When looking into the ports, it looks like the back corners of the cabinet may be closed off. Is that true? Any chance you could take a picture looking into the back hatch of the cabinets? Thanks!

Those look awesome. Can't wait to hear how they sound.

Don’t mind the cobwebs….

Thanks JB. I was wondering about building a pair of these, but have not been able to find any plans. However, your pics show a lot more is going on inside than I was expecting.
