My VPI Traveler Experience Did not End Well

I don't know if I'm one of the VPI "shareholders" you refer to but I still believe this whole thing is overblown. We have a tonearm that was delicate and didn't hold up in a few cases to being mishandled. Problem resolved. And here we have a one problem that could have been repaired with 2 minutes spent with some superglue. It took longer to complain about than it would have to fix it. And the "pop"? A lot of VPIs do that. Mine did. Different wires and/or plugging it into my power conditioner cured it. But suddenly it's the end of American industry? Bunch of drama queens.

Like i said before, we all have different level of tolerence. To you i'm a ''dramaqueen'' and to me, you're a VPI fanboy, i guess that salvation lies somewhere in the middle.

I am an extremely happy owner of a Traveler. I did have two issues with my first Traveler. VPI and Elusive Disc took care of my issues by exchanging my first Traveler with an updated Traveler.

VPI made some mis-steps but did their best to make it right. I am HAPPY. I wouldn't trade my Traveler for anything. I LOVE it. The newer Travelers DO NOT HAVE THOSE ISSUES. ALL TRAVELER ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED. THOSE PAST ISSUES ARE ANCIENT HISTORY.

CAN WE PLEASE GIVE VPI A BREAK? CAN WE STOP DRAGGING THE COMPANY THRU THE MUD? IT'S AN AMERICAN COMPANY AND EMPLOYER. LET'S SUPPORT THIS AMERICAN ENTERPRISE.

GIVE IT A REST PEOPLE!!!!!

I AM GETTING PISSED OFF WITH THESE NASTY THREADS BASHING VPI.

Unless i'm mistaking, you were the one who opened up this can of worms, so man up and live with it.

And look ma, no caps

I love this thread. Funny stuff. I've been looking forward to the VPI threads, these past few weeks. But now it's even ramping up in entertainment value.

:dammit:

The original thread I posted in was locked. So here is my follow up:

http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=484977

I never received the replacement table I was promised. VPI was unable to ship one to me or to ElusiveDisc. They were 'busy'.

Perhaps the "New Traveler" is a fine table but the original version I received was a piece of junk that was rushed out the door. A redesign after 3 months on the market and fire-sale prices on the original models are evidence enough to support that.

I am incredibly disappointed in VPI's lack of customer service and lack of follow through on their commitment to make things right. Elusive Disc was great to work with, always kept in touch with updates, and gave me a full refund including my original shipping costs. I opted to go with a Michell Gyro over another "made in the USA" experience. The table is rock solid and the company was good enough to overnight me a new set of springs from the UK at no cost!

This is only my experience with VPI so take it for what it's worth.

Yep, that's about the size of it for me, too. Not on quite the same scale, but the lack of interest was definitely there. So glad to see the back of my VPI, but disappointed as hell about the experience.

I love this thread too, but since ''iLUVanalog'' has made reference to the unmentionable SL-1199+1, i'm afraid it might get locked :para:

I´m sure it will not get locked mentioning this unmentionable, it wasn´t locked when China was mentioned, so.....

I still like the table a lot...as long as the minor problems I have get resolved I will expect many years of enjoyment out of this table. It's like anything else that is new to the market...the first few may need some sorting out. I am banking on VPI doing the right thing.
Turntable technology was essentially perfected back in the 60's. I certainly wouldn't expect bugs in a new product line from VPI. It's possible the production is outsourced, like many other companies do with their budget conscious, higher volume sale products. I'd love to get my hands on one of the new Classic series with "on-the-fly" VTA adjustment.

I know I said I was done with this thread but...

I don't see how a set screw backing out slightly due to shipping, etc would be considered a bug. The overall design of the table is superior to many I have owned and a good value for the money.

My $0.02. I have a first run Traveler and it has absolutely no issues. I've been quite happy with it. Matter of fact, I hope they offer the Traveler arm as a separate item in the near future. I have some armless turntables that would really benefit from the fitment of this arm.

I have to admit, you got some nerve buddy, the last time you've quoted me, you used the word ''de evolve'' or something to that effect to describe my post, and now you quote me again, i seriously hope you're not expecting an answer from me, at least not one you'll be happy to hear anyway.

I'm sure i had you going there for a second, altough i have to say, it surprises me that with you're post count and especially beeing a 1200 owner, you don't seem to be aware that mentioning the 1200 often stirs some heated debates.

And yes, at least one of the many threads regarding VPI's Traveler got locked, they're were a few mentions of the 1200 and the moderator warned people to stop brigning it up. This might not be the only reason, but the thread got locked.

Now, just in case you had any idea of going Jackie Chan on my a$$, we're on the same team, that's right, i'm a very satisfied 1200 owner. that being said, even if my 1200 isn't going anywehere soon, i'm interested in buying a Scout, that's why i follow threads involving VPI.

Stacker, I guess I just don't get it. I freely admit that the "unmentionable" table is not the do-all, end-all, holy grail.....far from it. At the same time, it's certainly not the piece of trash some people label it. It would not have lasted as long as it did if it were a piece of trash. But seeing how this is apparently a Traveler-ONLY thread, I will abstain from commenting further, and edit out any previous entries to this thread. Hopefully that will be to your satisfaction. The de-evolve thing is a general remark when discussion turns to the moot/pointless/ridiculous.

You're preaching to the choir my friend, but sadly not everyone share our opinion of the ''unmentionable''.

As good as the 1199+1 is, i wouldn't be here if i didn't believe that VPI makes good turntables, like i said, i'm still on the fence about the Scout.
