Mystery speakers, anyone know origin? look like tube friendly vintage speakers...

The ad states:
Tweeter - 2.5"
Midrange - 5"
Woofer - 12"
Surroundings - silk, no foam.
Alnico magnets.
Dimensions - 15" x 21" x 26"
Weight -50 lbs each cabinet

Their asking $200 cnd for pair, cabs and all :-)

They might be a step above Utah.

While the initial impression of the drivers doesn't inspire a great deal of excitement, there are some hints of decent engineering.

cabinet appears solidly/well built

ribbed cone on the woofer

tuned port

fairly complex crossover
 
The closed tweeter and mids remind me of old Sansui, Sony... The woofer though has a ceramic magnet with air hole through the middle of magnet...They all have stamped DWJ3 on all 3 speakers which tells me their a set and all original...I'm assuming. Probably not award winners, but look interesting.
 
IMO they're not a CDN$200 set of speakers (but of course I haven't heard them). Being in Toronto I'd bet you can do better.
 
Those look like Canadian drivers, probably marsland or radio speakers of Canada.

Small magnet on the woofer, closed back mids and tweeter. I would pass on these unless you try them and find them to sound good. Too big to justify draging them home.
 
The heavier connecting wire and modern looking crossovers has me thinking someone has been in these before.

Canadian speakers. I did a search, and yes they could be... What attracted me to this ad was the amount of work, wood and finish that someone did with the cabinets for such mediocre speakers.

Sometimes mediocre speakers can sound good, and I really like carefully done DIY projects. My main reservation on these, is that I have my doubts that their positives will outweigh the burden of moving, storing, and paying for as you say large and likely fairly mediocre speakers.

Also, the crossover looks quite modern - if it's a generic circuit board and not purpose built for the drivers, it's not likely to work that well either. I suspect that originally these would have run the woofer full range, with a single capacitor on the mid and tweeter, and maybe level controls.
