Nakamichi 700 Tri Tracer

Hello all

I have recently purchased a Nakamichi 700 Tri Tracer cassette player - I am looking for resources, stories, photos of "rennovation" style. Is there a specialist repair website for these mnachines.

I owned three Nakamichi's over 40+ years and I had no issues. I still have all the machines but they are packed and stowed away. Oh I had to spray a switch or pot once in a while and of course clean the heads and tape path regularly. But other than that no issues. I would say 90% of the few Nakamichi that came into our shop the issue was folks not keeping their tape decks tape path clean and using cheap cassettes. I always used Maxell, nothing else. Maybe thats why I never had any issues.. I also used nothing but Maxell cassettes in my Sony and factory automobile cassette players. No issues there either. The few tapes that got chewed up were commercial tapes from record companies. (cheap). We use to have a tape duplicating service, and used Ampex cassettes, but finally had to give up on them, too. Fortunately we were able to get MAxell tape a a good price. We used 580 and 582 machines with remote start to make 1:1 multiple copies for school systems etc. We also had high speed duplicators, but they always needed cleaning and servicing. Sure they were either 4 times or 8 times as fast for voice only, but they did the job. The Nakamichi's were used for making copies of concerts and other musical performances for parents and the students that we or others had recorded live.

Toa, and Tape-a thon back ground music cassette players with interspersing had to be the worst performing tape decks I have ever seen. People wouldn't keep them clean and the back ground music tapes provided from music services was cheap cheap cheap. I was glad when satellite back ground music service companies came along putting the tape companies out of business.
